I've been hanging out in this space for nine years
(as of yesterday)
and lots of quilts have come under my needle since then.
What I appreciate most about this space and all of you
is how I've made connections.
To celebrate these connections,
and how the world is a smaller place than it used to be,
I'm sending these four house blocks
(OK, one is a mosque, but it is a house of worship)
to the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild
to make quilts for the families of victims of the recent shooting in Quebec City
The deadline for 12.5 inch house blocks to get to Montreal is March 4.
Check out the hashtag #quiltsforqc on Instagram and Facebook.
Closer to home, right here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada,
I've been part of a project to make blankets with new Canadians,
mostly from Syria, who live just blocks from me.
Women from my church joined with these women to tie four blankets
made from tops donated by quilting friends and me,
and batting donated by another friend.
We backed them with 108 inch wide flannel backing
(which shrunk to 100 inches, which is why pre-washing is good)
and brought back to front to bind them.
The result is four warm blankets to keep their families warm on cold winter nights,
as well as making a few connections between new Canadians
and those of us who arrived a few generations back.
Now for the giveaway:
To any of my followers, old or new, I'm offering a chance
to win a personalized zipper bag, measuring about 8 inches by 6 inches,
with a quilting comic on one side and your first name on the other,
like the ones above.
Leave a comment on how you spread love through quilting by Feb. 14.
Make sure you're a follower!
You get an extra chance if you're also a follower on Instagram
and leave me a comment telling me that.

Hi, Brenda - (I follow your blog using Bloglovin and I follow you on IG). I just sent nine colorful pillowcases to our great nephews/nieces to brighten up their February (they live in deep snow country). I also recently donated a big box of fabric to a comfort quilt making group and sent another big box of patriotic fabrics for Alycia's Colorado QOV efforts. Congrats on your nine years here!
I find it hard to toot my own horn, but I will for this. I make baby quilts anytime my brother needs one for friends having a baby, I sent a baby quilt to my sister's dentist and another one to her for a child she sponsors, I make quilt tops and send them to Vicki which she quilts and the quilts go to a veterans hospital, I like to give a quilt to someone who is ill or just needs some comfort. Last year I made a queen sized quilt out of Harley t-shirts and donated it to a fundraiser which is run by a woman whose daughter was killed in a car accident. The money raised went to disable veterans.
I make lap quilts for women I know that has cancer
first I share all the knowledge that I have to help other quilters.
I also made a quilt for the victims at Pulse and blocks for Boston.
Your house blocks are so great -
Your blocks are wonderful....such a sad reason but hopefully the quilts will give comfort. I've participated in Quilts of Valor and our quilt charity quilts, but as I write this is seems inadequate.
Happy blogiversary!
I'm the chair of the BOM committee in my MQG and we decide on the blocks for each month, which get made into charity/comfort quilts. This month we're doing string blocks for kids' quilts. I usually make a few blocks each month. And for my other guild, I make quilt tops for the comfort quilts, and also make little baby quilts for the early-demise and indigent babies at a local hospital. And then the littlest scraps go into dog beds for a local rescue group!
I follow you through a link on my blog and also on IG.
Happy Blogiversary Brenda!! I have two blog friends celebrating 9 year anniversaries this week! My 8th will be later this year. I am also making house blocks for Montreal. Conveniently, we will be able to drop our blocks off to someone at QuiltCon. With all the contributions the OrlandoMQG received from around the world for the Pulse tragedy, our guild wants to "return the favor".
