Late or early finishes?

I finished up this mini Amish-inspired bar quilt last year,
but forgot to show it here.

It measures about 8.5 by 9 inches
and the dense machine quilting shrunk it a bit.

I made a three pillowcases from two fabrics yesterday.
I have a stack of large scale prints I bought especially for pillowcases
for future gifts, and now I have started the process of cutting and sewing them.

Either I'm late or really early,
but I've finished two Christmas tree quilts
made from one piece of patchwork that was kicking around my sewing space for too long.
So I cut a tree shape from it
and sewed the two triangle together with a centre stem

To make this tree.

Here's both of them.
They measure 14 inches high and are heavily quilted
in the background with feathers in one tree
and a variety of loops in the other.

I also knit two pussyhats, inspired by all the pink hats I saw on Instragram,
from one skein of acrylic yarn.

And I had a little friend test out this finished baby quilt.

I'm linking up with other Friday finishers:

Catching up and giveaway update

Recently I had the urge to play with little bits
and this is what happened.

This is the craziest one.
I sewed together one-inch strips of Kona solids leftover from something else
and made this block.
Right now it's floating in a navy background,
but I think it needs a few more borders.

Then I got out the Oakshott charms
and made another Amish-inspired quilt.
This measures 8 by 10 inches.

The two yellow and green minis on the left
are 8.5 by 11 inches,
the size of  copy paper.

None of these has a purpose yet,
but stay tuned.

This single-sized 1600 challenge quilt in pastel batiks.
is  waiting for me to quilt it
and the deadline is fast approaching.
I didn't make the quilt top, but I volunteered to quilt it
for a local charity sale.

I'd like to incorporate more texture
but I also know the price probably won't be much over $200
so I don't want to spend too much time quilting it.

I'm considering straight line diagonals
or free motion loops
or just plain straight lines.

Any other suggestions?

If you're still with me,
I chose a new giveaway winner,
since the original winner didn't leave a way to contact her.

I still read blogs because of the inspiration it gives to my creative side and spiritual side. Just like your post today. I never would have though of that combination, but I LOVE it! Made my day. Many thanks.

Gifts, gifts, and little Amish quilts

A week or so ago I saw Susan's little miniature Amish bars quilt and pattern and I decided to make one. Well, maybe a few more than one. Here's nine that I've finished. Most measure around 9 by 11 inches, some less, depending on how accurate I was with the seam allowances and pressing.

I invited my guild members to make some, since we were asked to provide some small quilty gifts for international visitors to our city. The bottom row has two made by fellow guild members and one made by me -- Amish modern bars.

These little quiltlets are a good for practicing skills like quilting and binding. I had some fun with the machine quilting.
Lots of vines and leaves here, inspired by the bright spring colours in this green and orange quilt.

Feathered wreathes and borders. I'm getting the hang of free-hand feathers.

Some bubbles and feathers here.

Straight line stitching with the walking foot for this modern version.

My birthday gift books came last week, with some more ideas on machine quilting Amish design.

And a few shopping bags made from upholstery fabric for a friend's birthday
