<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1_hN-h3e2vU/XlhS0Cgy88I/AAAAAAAAhDM/bLk752dbZCQQC_GbeDkWcRdz1O6cJtVNQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/5AE87C0E-1C72-4502-B473-7BE4826C0110.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1_hN-h3e2vU/XlhS0Cgy88I/AAAAAAAAhDM/bLk752dbZCQQC_GbeDkWcRdz1O6cJtVNQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/5AE87C0E-1C72-4502-B473-7BE4826C0110.HEIC" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm finally adding pictures of the four memory quilts I made from about 20 men's shirts.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here they are all laid out together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nGNxRMjO9QA/XlhSzpioe3I/AAAAAAAAhDI/rsxx-xl2h2cICbA5zL5lFduLPCcXZ2rWQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_4090.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nGNxRMjO9QA/XlhSzpioe3I/AAAAAAAAhDI/rsxx-xl2h2cICbA5zL5lFduLPCcXZ2rWQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_4090.HEIC" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Check out my link under pages<a href="https://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.com/p/memory-quilts.html"> here</a> to see the rest of them.</div>

<br />Brendahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029115839076216849noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3001514489840426015.post-50254564155007974832020-01-07T16:58:00.002-06:002020-01-07T16:58:46.896-06:00Not quite a quilt, but more than a blanket<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-avqhOaH3Qrg/XhUKXgD3f6I/AAAAAAAAg4c/V45NaWdXa-s55ODBr9D1hakPU4EeQkB3ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_4923.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-avqhOaH3Qrg/XhUKXgD3f6I/AAAAAAAAg4c/V45NaWdXa-s55ODBr9D1hakPU4EeQkB3ACLcBGAsYHQ/s400/IMG_4923.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm in the process of putting together three comforters measuring about 60 by 80 inches</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to donate to <a href="https://mcccanada.ca/">Mennonite Central Committee</a> this month.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This relief and development organization hopes to collect 6,500 comforters in January</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
as part of their centennial celebrations.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The comforters get baled and shipped to disaster zones or to refugee camps.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w4WuLWyYPYU/XhUKXMhBEuI/AAAAAAAAg4Y/zHDaNoo2GDEb-H8-qFeQwLy87CtQvHQIgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_4924.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w4WuLWyYPYU/XhUKXMhBEuI/AAAAAAAAg4Y/zHDaNoo2GDEb-H8-qFeQwLy87CtQvHQIgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_4924.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For this one, I used up a bag of samples given to me by a friend of a friend,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and added a few fabrics to get it to size.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I machine quilted along the vertical seams with my walking foot</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and hand tied knots every six inches in the middle of the columns.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have two more tops to sandwich and quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The biggest difference between these comforters and the quilts I usually make </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
are the ties and the way I edge the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Instead of a double fold binding, I cut the backing 1.5 inches bigger than the quilt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and bring it to the front (folded over) and machine stitch it down.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see this in the photo below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VoAxb6L3fjU/XhUKXmDDCLI/AAAAAAAAg4g/jz2uBEk7F7sx4R6kLu2CD_zufieQFsfPwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_4926.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VoAxb6L3fjU/XhUKXmDDCLI/AAAAAAAAg4g/jz2uBEk7F7sx4R6kLu2CD_zufieQFsfPwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_4926.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For those of you who follow me on Instagram (@brendasuderman), you may have seen my new deck and railing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We replaced the deck and the sidewalks last fall,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I've discovered my new metal railings are also great for hanging quilts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I use the one-inch alligator clips to fasten the quilts on the rails.</div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sdt1U9WYSSM/XaMesz-3oRI/AAAAAAAAghA/44P9QBfnlEoeIEEW-XyY8PNqC_NboGvFACKgBGAsYHg/s1600/A7797D01-5ADC-43FD-BD5B-E858B3A85BC7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sdt1U9WYSSM/XaMesz-3oRI/AAAAAAAAghA/44P9QBfnlEoeIEEW-XyY8PNqC_NboGvFACKgBGAsYHg/s400/A7797D01-5ADC-43FD-BD5B-E858B3A85BC7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been making small things lately,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
like sewing machine blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my first attempt at a Singer Featherweight.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DP9AJ4SpuSQ/XaMes-6a-2I/AAAAAAAAghA/8krpvHQ4s7QIwZKECjfSdF8AYxCkSVWAwCKgBGAsYHg/s1600/2DD6B224-7039-4C76-9EDC-BB74EE6FA8F5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DP9AJ4SpuSQ/XaMes-6a-2I/AAAAAAAAghA/8krpvHQ4s7QIwZKECjfSdF8AYxCkSVWAwCKgBGAsYHg/s400/2DD6B224-7039-4C76-9EDC-BB74EE6FA8F5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I went for the mid-70s looks with an orange machine.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lxKHD500JGI/XaMes4hq76I/AAAAAAAAghA/alLzKN5h42IPaJFL62Bv2aLjWuNCHh7RQCKgBGAsYHg/s1600/3654DD98-5238-470B-B478-A545A2BC506B.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lxKHD500JGI/XaMes4hq76I/AAAAAAAAghA/alLzKN5h42IPaJFL62Bv2aLjWuNCHh7RQCKgBGAsYHg/s400/3654DD98-5238-470B-B478-A545A2BC506B.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I invoked my inner Trekkie to make two sets of tea cozies, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
using my favourite quote from Captain Picard.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9QlBfdBMYms/XaMesxz2AqI/AAAAAAAAghA/1mg_3KcXxlU1OP9xfk9Qa6iGuP80AsoKgCKgBGAsYHg/s1600/E5C16129-3A37-4A19-A78B-9DE653AAFAC2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9QlBfdBMYms/XaMesxz2AqI/AAAAAAAAghA/1mg_3KcXxlU1OP9xfk9Qa6iGuP80AsoKgCKgBGAsYHg/s400/E5C16129-3A37-4A19-A78B-9DE653AAFAC2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The one at the left is made from a linen/cotton blend.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-om9pLr0Wu-k/XaMes60CHTI/AAAAAAAAghA/Z9-TRKH7BXc5_7t7xXPn2nBURuooU9SSQCKgBGAsYHg/s1600/IMG_4068.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-om9pLr0Wu-k/XaMes60CHTI/AAAAAAAAghA/Z9-TRKH7BXc5_7t7xXPn2nBURuooU9SSQCKgBGAsYHg/s400/IMG_4068.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also embarked on a pouch-making frenzy in September,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
finishing up these two I started a long time ago.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I get a lot of love for the nesting doll prints,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but these dolls don't nest, unless of course they are all put together already</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and just sitting on a row beside other sets of nesting dolls.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a gang of pouches, most made using a <a href="https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176509.0">triangle pouch tutorial here.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like this inch tape measure ribbon, which I bought by the metre in Invermere, B.C. this summer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Funny how Canadian quiltmakers buy in metres but sew in inches.</div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y4TuJUGtJmM/XUjnHXjRgbI/AAAAAAAAdXo/Pe_g_0eLG8k7IKUPmHyKCdd00VWg4bV5gCKgBGAs/s1600/D7F928AA-4623-4B0D-B27A-0459AE950CD7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y4TuJUGtJmM/XUjnHXjRgbI/AAAAAAAAdXo/Pe_g_0eLG8k7IKUPmHyKCdd00VWg4bV5gCKgBGAs/s400/D7F928AA-4623-4B0D-B27A-0459AE950CD7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Recently I was commissioned to make a table runner similiar </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to the one above, which I made as a class sample.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I didn't want to sell the sample,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so I started making houses with fabrics that would be special to the buyers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NAlzZdne-U8/XUjnHbk-0BI/AAAAAAAAdXo/nEr7IVZdDHMrMylMfKF92-BmwYmuYCuAgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_3432.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NAlzZdne-U8/XUjnHbk-0BI/AAAAAAAAdXo/nEr7IVZdDHMrMylMfKF92-BmwYmuYCuAgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_3432.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the finished table runner. It measures about 18 by 40 inches</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uyn1roj4S88/XUjnHU06_RI/AAAAAAAAdXo/rj9JzfNckvMDL2wV1-vaCP_4w3MXgNjqgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_3436.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uyn1roj4S88/XUjnHU06_RI/AAAAAAAAdXo/rj9JzfNckvMDL2wV1-vaCP_4w3MXgNjqgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_3436.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hlj_FhiTqN0/XUjnHVHNUII/AAAAAAAAdXo/8RlIiqX1JX8LBQZKm__N-10CXAk7sSu8wCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_3435.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hlj_FhiTqN0/XUjnHVHNUII/AAAAAAAAdXo/8RlIiqX1JX8LBQZKm__N-10CXAk7sSu8wCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_3435.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a variety of greens for the trees, and text and novelty fabrics for the houses.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Above are a rainbow house, a love house, and a prayer house.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1RgH3zhYA9Q/XUjnHT78OAI/AAAAAAAAdXo/VQQQhn5EKMgWnz73_RPQ-BcJF0ng17TEACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_3434.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1RgH3zhYA9Q/XUjnHT78OAI/AAAAAAAAdXo/VQQQhn5EKMgWnz73_RPQ-BcJF0ng17TEACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_3434.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And a music house, an African hut, a peace and writing house, and a rose house.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--be_kypOhz0/XUjnHWe4fWI/AAAAAAAAdXo/AShuxP1ktTw-o0xBlt4jaFvQL72fswJ3gCKgBGAs/s1600/60BD8BB0-B15B-4E12-AC0E-7ECEB3917531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--be_kypOhz0/XUjnHWe4fWI/AAAAAAAAdXo/AShuxP1ktTw-o0xBlt4jaFvQL72fswJ3gCKgBGAs/s400/60BD8BB0-B15B-4E12-AC0E-7ECEB3917531.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are the two of them side by side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The bottom one is my class sample, and I regretted that it was wider than width of fabric,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
which necessitated piecing the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I made the new one a bit narrower, since 40 inches is plenty long for a table runner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love making wonky houses and trees,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I plan to teach another class on this in fall.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Let me know if you are local and would be interested in signing up.</div>
<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w9GqkQk1OqY/XUCkaG94bmI/AAAAAAAAdWo/gg6QQSZRTnUPAybFsrwin3dJS7psgMa3QCKgBGAs/s1600/EAFE7F0C-41D5-4F88-A45C-705E4C36092A.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w9GqkQk1OqY/XUCkaG94bmI/AAAAAAAAdWo/gg6QQSZRTnUPAybFsrwin3dJS7psgMa3QCKgBGAs/s400/EAFE7F0C-41D5-4F88-A45C-705E4C36092A.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For months my house has been taken over by bits and pieces of men's shirts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My cousin died in March, and at his funeral, his wife asked us to make a quilt from his dress shirts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Turns out she found 55 coloured shirts, so the project grew from one quilt to at least four.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zf7_fnGH4HI/XUCkaHOSzCI/AAAAAAAAdWo/N53VqUiz9HoEoMBYUb705iT_2S7AijckwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_3279.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zf7_fnGH4HI/XUCkaHOSzCI/AAAAAAAAdWo/N53VqUiz9HoEoMBYUb705iT_2S7AijckwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_3279.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I volunteered to take the blue shirts, as well as a few orange ones,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to make quilts for his two sons, one still a teenager, and the other in his early twenties.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This project grew even further when we realized how much fabric is really in an XL size shirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My mother made two quilts from the aqua and black shirts in that closet,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
my aunt figured out how to make two from the grey and lilac shirts,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and my cousin made a quilt from the pink and grey shirts, and gave me her scraps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So that got us up to seven quilts, enough to give to the extended family.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bpF6nJIfr3Y/XUCkj9MuqlI/AAAAAAAAdWw/xBuS_s71gnsSR2FJmTrDBIDgVjHLaNUCACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_3303.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bpF6nJIfr3Y/XUCkj9MuqlI/AAAAAAAAdWw/xBuS_s71gnsSR2FJmTrDBIDgVjHLaNUCACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_3303.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a couple of shots of them laid out on a table.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made the blue and orange one.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wFCm0RsX4zE/XUCkjzZ9CKI/AAAAAAAAdWw/1Utnk_xo8XUF4ptW19Rcvcnue06GjMZgwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_3302.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wFCm0RsX4zE/XUCkjzZ9CKI/AAAAAAAAdWw/1Utnk_xo8XUF4ptW19Rcvcnue06GjMZgwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_3302.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I still had lots of scraps, but I'm finding this project emotionally exhausting,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so I handed a pile of cut squares to my mom and she finished another top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's eight now.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tGxtk4-VRrc/XUCkj0r0rQI/AAAAAAAAdWw/degfnq32kKQgrOYNonQmHwiSOFE67QvkQCKgBGAs/s1600/7E9089D8-B04F-4C8A-9A33-03CAF4FCFF75.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tGxtk4-VRrc/XUCkj0r0rQI/AAAAAAAAdWw/degfnq32kKQgrOYNonQmHwiSOFE67QvkQCKgBGAs/s400/7E9089D8-B04F-4C8A-9A33-03CAF4FCFF75.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A photo of the quilted in label in the two blue quilts I made.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since Sunday, I've been sewing sleeve plackets and yokes with labels and shirt hems</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
into a string quilt. I'm about 10 long seams from being completed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This last project seems even more personal, since I'm using bits and pieces from the inside yoke</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
or the shirt tails that are usually tucked in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yesterday I found myself thinking of losing my own loved ones,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and how hard it would be to lose my husband in mid-life</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I had to stop sewing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There's no moral here,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
except I think fabric from clothing carries more weight than yardage off the bolt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These shirt parts have been speaking to me in a personal way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We plan to take beauty shots of all of the quilts before we present them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They are all very different, and all very beautiful.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2pGl8Onl9d4/XL-eX5wwQCI/AAAAAAAAczs/yeFgn1WIC9wKH9Q45H_r1PR-stQH9w-qgCKgBGAs/s1600/142CFF50-ADC5-4A9D-BE10-9663BE0C2B64.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2pGl8Onl9d4/XL-eX5wwQCI/AAAAAAAAczs/yeFgn1WIC9wKH9Q45H_r1PR-stQH9w-qgCKgBGAs/s400/142CFF50-ADC5-4A9D-BE10-9663BE0C2B64.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sometimes quilts weigh on my mind,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
like this unfinished log cabin I started in Jan. 2017.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Warwz0qOrK4/XL-eX2x78YI/AAAAAAAAczs/34-i2VBvXEwAL__u0oDM0MPm7ivv8PF-wCKgBGAs/s1600/24CDB7DA-EB91-4846-9100-123FFB10B95B.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Warwz0qOrK4/XL-eX2x78YI/AAAAAAAAczs/34-i2VBvXEwAL__u0oDM0MPm7ivv8PF-wCKgBGAs/s400/24CDB7DA-EB91-4846-9100-123FFB10B95B.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had a vision of blue starbursts in my head,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but I'm not happy with the contrast.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used two jelly rolls with some additional fabrics,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and now I'm rethinking the whole project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have 36 14 inch blocks, so I may go with the furrow layout on the top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The biggest obstacle for me is quilting it, since I don't usually machine quilt such large quilts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I'm quite hesitant to pay someone else to quilt it when I don't really like the quilt at all.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6uaczg6otiA/XL-eX6_x_0I/AAAAAAAAczs/JFDiNzOtka00qk5BFOQNJViqGrtW_saqACKgBGAs/s1600/7DA48911-8853-4C27-9E2D-0E8639504551.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1223" data-original-width="1440" height="338" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6uaczg6otiA/XL-eX6_x_0I/AAAAAAAAczs/JFDiNzOtka00qk5BFOQNJViqGrtW_saqACKgBGAs/s400/7DA48911-8853-4C27-9E2D-0E8639504551.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Recently I taught improv quilting at a local quilt shop.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was my first real teaching gig, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but I've been making quilts with improv techniques for more than a decade.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was inspired early on by books by the late great Gwen Marston,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and by online sewalongs with Tonya Ricicci, who doesn't hang out in blogland anymore.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The piece with the green border is an improv village on a table runner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used lots of scraps and the same background fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEq1EyIoiWM/XL-eX4AOQOI/AAAAAAAAczs/GusDP3_nQVUf-XwowlRmliQkqwvIjaY6gCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2598.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEq1EyIoiWM/XL-eX4AOQOI/AAAAAAAAczs/GusDP3_nQVUf-XwowlRmliQkqwvIjaY6gCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2598.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I showed my students how to make trees and a variety of houses</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and they all did great.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lR4yVUa88Mo/XL-eX100PbI/AAAAAAAAczs/tBKsXn0wix8dQX9T6W3D8e-5m0bvf4RBwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2594.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lR4yVUa88Mo/XL-eX100PbI/AAAAAAAAczs/tBKsXn0wix8dQX9T6W3D8e-5m0bvf4RBwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2594.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I showed them some of my improv house quilts too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The one at the left is from 2009, and uses log cabins and wonky houses in a variety of sizes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The made the one at the right last year for a new baby.</div>

</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<img height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xbeckqTw8h0/Twb_BS5MB8I/AAAAAAAADTU/ZKdyt_l8-90/s320/IMG_6492-1.JPG" width="281" /></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Occasionally I check my blog statistics on the design toggle,</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
and I've been seeing high traffic for my pieced letter and curved piecing tutorials. </div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Stupidly I thought it was because of the content,</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
but really it was because of the name, which I'm not going to repeat here,</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
but I will let you buy a vowel.</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
The title of the letter making tutorial was Str*p Pieced letters</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now it is Shortcut Pieced letters</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
to prevent spambots from searching it out and thinking this is</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
an adult-content site.<br />
I also changed the Curved Str*p Piecing tutorial to Curved Piecing.</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
I imagine anyone clicking on the links wasn't interested in quilting..</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
I notice that several adult websites are driving traffic to my blog.</div>
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyone know how to prevent that?<br />
<i><u>Update:</u> After changing the names, some of spambot traffic has found other places to land.</i></div>
</div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wow7-w2ETQk/XIKJmoFcn3I/AAAAAAAAcWg/GsJFA3FdbioFGiiqmAvCbsWjdn-BSWvPgCKgBGAs/s1600/DBA3030F-48FB-44F2-8BBE-E4F8A8C2B1B8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wow7-w2ETQk/XIKJmoFcn3I/AAAAAAAAcWg/GsJFA3FdbioFGiiqmAvCbsWjdn-BSWvPgCKgBGAs/s400/DBA3030F-48FB-44F2-8BBE-E4F8A8C2B1B8.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I collected a bunch of blue friendship stars from friends</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
for a group quilt project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The parameters were that the stars had to be blue, the backgrounds neutral,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and they had to spin the same way, and finish at 9 inches</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-85kVXXFW_ns/XIKJmm1Mo3I/AAAAAAAAcWg/Xl8tNEFzSwY-P96Gzv60ZxGtB-8d4Nn4QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2434.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-85kVXXFW_ns/XIKJmm1Mo3I/AAAAAAAAcWg/Xl8tNEFzSwY-P96Gzv60ZxGtB-8d4Nn4QCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_2434.HEIC" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I dispersed the solid stars among the rest of them,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and then offset them by 3 inches to make them dance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It all went together quickly, and I had enough blue scraps to make the piano key border.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FVfiMKDQi8g/XIKJ98-oo0I/AAAAAAAAcWw/vQsLmzYvL3sZiikO2C1Nq8E6VFPzkdQbACKgBGAs/s1600/607D1EE0-F8C5-44E6-8A80-C0F1452040CC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FVfiMKDQi8g/XIKJ98-oo0I/AAAAAAAAcWw/vQsLmzYvL3sZiikO2C1Nq8E6VFPzkdQbACKgBGAs/s320/607D1EE0-F8C5-44E6-8A80-C0F1452040CC.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One friend donated three metres of indigo fabric for the backing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had a few stars left, so I pieced together the backing,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but not without some serious calculations.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I have just enough yardage left to cut the binding.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eQoD-WoU37I/XIKJmtyW_fI/AAAAAAAAcWg/UUw0TscnMZEf9WYpRamO4iA-T9fwRIZCACKgBGAs/s1600/C8C880C9-6544-409B-8DA8-6170B71F1B68.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eQoD-WoU37I/XIKJmtyW_fI/AAAAAAAAcWg/UUw0TscnMZEf9WYpRamO4iA-T9fwRIZCACKgBGAs/s320/C8C880C9-6544-409B-8DA8-6170B71F1B68.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the finished back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It doesn't look nearly as complicated as it was.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love little pieces and I don't mind making 500 seams in the front,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but I'm grumpy about more than one seam in the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's not quite a finish, except that I finished both the top and the backing this week,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so I'm claiming it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I spent the holiday weekend (Louis Riel Day in Manitoba)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
making a dozen of these needle books</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used up scraps and sewing prints and little bits of patchwork</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to make each one slightly different.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_2wXljQh8FU/XHBvenM0ffI/AAAAAAAAcCE/lsOh025lrpc3g8y5i97sGxYSPTxPHWxSwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2337.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_2wXljQh8FU/XHBvenM0ffI/AAAAAAAAcCE/lsOh025lrpc3g8y5i97sGxYSPTxPHWxSwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2337.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I use wool felt for the inside pages.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love the saturation of colour in the wool.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0mGgBGWZD0/XHBvep1G0yI/AAAAAAAAcCE/qgslmHvlBacGERLGBhHXZDcTZL1DoT16QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0mGgBGWZD0/XHBvep1G0yI/AAAAAAAAcCE/qgslmHvlBacGERLGBhHXZDcTZL1DoT16QCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2335.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used to make them from selvage dots like the one at the left,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but now I make mini quilts. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The one at the top used leftover blades from a Dresden project</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
on a Westminster Liberty Art fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That one had flown off to QuiltCon as a gift for someone</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
before I got the picture of all 12 together.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nQDrJ21Il4Y/XHBvehGFwnI/AAAAAAAAcCE/mqMY19MuoA0tm7wIQJCU-xnBbYYFhg1mQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2294.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nQDrJ21Il4Y/XHBvehGFwnI/AAAAAAAAcCE/mqMY19MuoA0tm7wIQJCU-xnBbYYFhg1mQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2294.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also said goodbye to this little guy,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
who didn't mind sitting in the snow in his new track suit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He is now fully clothed and has a new home.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FUZ2ss5UnRQ/XHBveojYA0I/AAAAAAAAcCE/1zhIWQ2_mbU1GwlRymuKa_iXqQ-D6vlkgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2288.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FUZ2ss5UnRQ/XHBveojYA0I/AAAAAAAAcCE/1zhIWQ2_mbU1GwlRymuKa_iXqQ-D6vlkgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2288.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started this quilt at a retreat in January and finished it two weeks later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It has a pink Eden print by Tula Pink on the back.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DEp41Mnp6wQ/XHBveschvNI/AAAAAAAAcCE/ektFBrvDfh8ytleag-pco0aw98lqmaFRwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2287.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DEp41Mnp6wQ/XHBveschvNI/AAAAAAAAcCE/ektFBrvDfh8ytleag-pco0aw98lqmaFRwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2287.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the front, made from one and a half charm packs and hourglass blocks in two colours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is a really simple quilt with a great visual effect. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The two grey colours make on point squares around the charm squares,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
making the quilt look like it was set on point.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_T2j6k7RW9o/XHB1dP_qisI/AAAAAAAAcCQ/B7qGuDEIYvwuvv5qgby4zotK9VJh8Wl7QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2095.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_T2j6k7RW9o/XHB1dP_qisI/AAAAAAAAcCQ/B7qGuDEIYvwuvv5qgby4zotK9VJh8Wl7QCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2095.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here you can see the beginnings on my design wall.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8KCAxT_a-68/XHBvehtfnZI/AAAAAAAAcCE/ewBZVC9IS9ATQ6hmsD5E5idUbHSeNpj6gCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2285.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8KCAxT_a-68/XHBvehtfnZI/AAAAAAAAcCE/ewBZVC9IS9ATQ6hmsD5E5idUbHSeNpj6gCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2285.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I spent 45 minutes quilting this top which had sat in a drawer for two years.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a Warm and Natural batting and a micro fleece for the backing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm donating it to an organization outfitting people affected by recent apartment building fires.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I figure there's some little kid out there that will have fun driving on these roads.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d7e-qi23bdY/XHBvetsa-XI/AAAAAAAAcCE/udWLHBpMIPcUi53YflZq4cr1ekGwHHsigCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2277.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d7e-qi23bdY/XHBvetsa-XI/AAAAAAAAcCE/udWLHBpMIPcUi53YflZq4cr1ekGwHHsigCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2277.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And my last finish:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A Valentine placemat for my mom, made from a set of charms with love and heart themes.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y_Z2OoUFRGw/XHBveuLqtDI/AAAAAAAAcCE/jp8IBbCqwwkguXkjRGwz0KHiBtwmS9NiQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2258.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y_Z2OoUFRGw/XHBveuLqtDI/AAAAAAAAcCE/jp8IBbCqwwkguXkjRGwz0KHiBtwmS9NiQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2258.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BYGOiTZcuhw/XHBvekGYBLI/AAAAAAAAcCE/fQGh6IPgNOsJblEjuLn3Ts_1LQQeAjFfQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BYGOiTZcuhw/XHBvekGYBLI/AAAAAAAAcCE/fQGh6IPgNOsJblEjuLn3Ts_1LQQeAjFfQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2310.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here she is with it and her birthday roses.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She turned 82 on Valentine's Day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />Brendahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029115839076216849noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3001514489840426015.post-58632167119086168062019-01-23T21:53:00.000-06:002019-03-18T15:44:25.534-05:00A maker's musings<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--pP1PvvoGzs/XEk0CHt78HI/AAAAAAAAbY0/rth64STQDPIKpkdAZ0_iuahceq6iPoGOQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1824.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--pP1PvvoGzs/XEk0CHt78HI/AAAAAAAAbY0/rth64STQDPIKpkdAZ0_iuahceq6iPoGOQCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_1824.HEIC" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So we're into the deep freeze up here in Winnipeg,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and in the depths of the creative season on the Canadian Prairies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My city has vibrant and creative cultural communities--</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
writers, musicians, artists, artisans--</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and lots of people say its because of a long winter where we have time to perfect our art or craft.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TKb5hk3FGEk/XEk0CGNbdpI/AAAAAAAAbY0/zuX3IAEutRQdu8RWii42wIw5UWbjGMruACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1653.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TKb5hk3FGEk/XEk0CGNbdpI/AAAAAAAAbY0/zuX3IAEutRQdu8RWii42wIw5UWbjGMruACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1653.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I certainly sew and quilt more in winter than in summer</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and my creative output often prompts the remark:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You get so much done!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
or I can't believe how much you make!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
or another variation of that.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VbO3CiekK-I/XEk0CIgBHaI/AAAAAAAAbY0/w7uTIGQBljAu7MR-2lByPfcyJBx2NSIIQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1639.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VbO3CiekK-I/XEk0CIgBHaI/AAAAAAAAbY0/w7uTIGQBljAu7MR-2lByPfcyJBx2NSIIQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1639.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't want to appear defensive,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but why do I have to defend making stuff?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been doing it since I learned to sew doll clothes at age 6</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
on my mother's new Elna Supermatic,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've had really productive times</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and times that are less productive,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but face it, I'm a maker.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also hear the subtext of their remarks that they don't have time to quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hear that it's not important to them to take time,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and maybe even that I have nothing better to occupy my time with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jBwJ0iSWPDE/XEk0CE_6ThI/AAAAAAAAbY0/ccs3iUZfJ5kajUtoCU1xORDuDcjrnnYdwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1375.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jBwJ0iSWPDE/XEk0CE_6ThI/AAAAAAAAbY0/ccs3iUZfJ5kajUtoCU1xORDuDcjrnnYdwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1375.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Do musicians and artists and novelists get those kind of comments?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't think anyone is telling Miriam Toews or David Bergen,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
two award wining writers from Winnipeg,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
that they like their books, but (sigh) they don't have time to write. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like turning bits of fabric into something</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and touching fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and figuring out how to make an idea in my head come to life.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My son is studying engineering, and taking courses on design</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and reverse engineering, and material properties,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and project management. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Those are all skills quiltmakers have.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XyD7kk7pW5w/XEk0CC8JdiI/AAAAAAAAbY0/aWJFQVTHCBMS5Ul5hy1Wo6USIRGOgSy9wCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XyD7kk7pW5w/XEk0CC8JdiI/AAAAAAAAbY0/aWJFQVTHCBMS5Ul5hy1Wo6USIRGOgSy9wCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_1368.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But I'm not despairing. Just wondering.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm energized by making stuff</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I like sharing my makings with others.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But I'm tired of the comments about my output.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MLmsLV-K_4g/XEk0CGeSDZI/AAAAAAAAbY0/sQQXsJpnUUcBUNXQC8j2WpKB6I-_HeNbACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1255.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MLmsLV-K_4g/XEk0CGeSDZI/AAAAAAAAbY0/sQQXsJpnUUcBUNXQC8j2WpKB6I-_HeNbACKgBGAs/s640/IMG_1255.HEIC" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One answer is I have a really fast sewing machine and I know how to use it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another is that I have 50 years of making stuff,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so my hands are practiced at what they do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Maybe it's just the speed of social media</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and how quickly a finished project can be shared with the world.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's why I'm not posing this question on Instagram,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
where I have followers not interested in quilts (gasp!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but here in Quilt Blogland,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
where only quilters hang out because they care about making.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love being a maker.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't want to feel guilty about being fast or good or prolific.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Makers gotta make, right?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What do you make of my makers's questions?</div>

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IZHeRvPQGoU/XEJO0XL8olI/AAAAAAAAbYE/FNLvazrou0sIvq31OobRr9-wm94uS5lIwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IZHeRvPQGoU/XEJO0XL8olI/AAAAAAAAbYE/FNLvazrou0sIvq31OobRr9-wm94uS5lIwCKgBGAs/s320/IMG_2015.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took out these string flying geese from several years back1</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and last week finally got them into a top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to go with two hues of orange</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and now the top is done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It measures 48 inches square.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o1v7be3s4QI/XEJO0Ysg0eI/AAAAAAAAbYE/FjpOPhn2KG4LbZUH_yBto7NnY4S0rXdnwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1961.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o1v7be3s4QI/XEJO0Ysg0eI/AAAAAAAAbYE/FjpOPhn2KG4LbZUH_yBto7NnY4S0rXdnwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1961.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made some carry bags for Singer Featherweights.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one for Krista Hennebury of <a href="http://poppyprintcreates.blogspot.com/">Poppyprint </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
incorporates free-pieced letter in hand dyed fabrics against a background</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
of a snow-dyed feed sack. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The orange fabric top and bottom is from a woven Danish tablecloth</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
that had holes in the centre.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've made one more FW tote from it and cut two more.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jR0Cc0od75E/XEJO0TPnD7I/AAAAAAAAbYE/RLbn9jAWuqoeqy4WHDLGZVk30WTOZtf6ACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1959.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jR0Cc0od75E/XEJO0TPnD7I/AAAAAAAAbYE/RLbn9jAWuqoeqy4WHDLGZVk30WTOZtf6ACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1959.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just in case anyone is wondering what's inside,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I free motioned the word "featherweight" on the other side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love these vintage half-sized sewing machines,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but the cases can have problems</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
like the clasps not closing properly</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
or the handle wearing out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So it is safer to carry the case in a bag.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C5WIHZLnzQE/XEJO0R2k0OI/AAAAAAAAbYE/DN3DqmwNC9E8OeWUJa2cUGZpdsbJTvVsACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1936.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C5WIHZLnzQE/XEJO0R2k0OI/AAAAAAAAbYE/DN3DqmwNC9E8OeWUJa2cUGZpdsbJTvVsACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1936.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I oiled and lubed and fiddled with the tensions on my choir of Singer Featherweights last week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They were ready to use for a workshop last weekend </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
sponsored by Winnipeg Modern Quilt Guild</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and for a retreat in a week from now.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5uJ2kOR_aJU/XEJO0ScpA0I/AAAAAAAAbYE/qfqRkrlfyc4N_hY1Lxb5W5g7PYYVuHpvACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1930.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5uJ2kOR_aJU/XEJO0ScpA0I/AAAAAAAAbYE/qfqRkrlfyc4N_hY1Lxb5W5g7PYYVuHpvACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1930.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My oldest son vacated his room for several months.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
His furniture is still there,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but there's room for my folding table-turned cutting station</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and my choir of Featherweights and other storage bins underneath the table.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The added benefit is there's more room in my sewing space now.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dx1VCgG9WqY/XEJO0UpPrjI/AAAAAAAAbYE/ecn8d_PQQ-0Q6YH6mtZD5Jx47mdRk10-QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2009.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dx1VCgG9WqY/XEJO0UpPrjI/AAAAAAAAbYE/ecn8d_PQQ-0Q6YH6mtZD5Jx47mdRk10-QCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_2009.HEIC" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took Krista Hennebury's class Speed Date with Improv last Sunday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Those are my blocks at the far right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She demonstrated several improv techniques</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and then encouraged us to put the all the parts together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've made many improv quilts before, but not in this style.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was quite deliberate in matching up colour changes and lines in this piece.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wFj4gdyILhU/XEJO0WuQyuI/AAAAAAAAbYE/ekYLrUcXgroY8WZgbNXDHEnS3E-HwAbUQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_2042.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wFj4gdyILhU/XEJO0WuQyuI/AAAAAAAAbYE/ekYLrUcXgroY8WZgbNXDHEnS3E-HwAbUQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_2042.HEIC" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It measures about 19 by 37 inches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We were required to bring 5 inch squares in white and black and one other colour. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I chose a light green that reads as a medium value, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to contrast with both the black and the white.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm linking up with other Friday finishers at</div>

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I_V4lklrNLg/XBq_3tELWqI/AAAAAAAAa0A/72X6R5jGbckwunwocUKBVZ6gSKcMjrbkwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1646.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I_V4lklrNLg/XBq_3tELWqI/AAAAAAAAa0A/72X6R5jGbckwunwocUKBVZ6gSKcMjrbkwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1646.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been playing with little bits, mostly in wool, for the last few weeks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First up are little houses, about 2.5 inches tall,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
made from felted wool and wool felt and melton,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and cut out with a die cutter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the past, I've hand stitched them together with a blanket stitch,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but this time sewed them by machine, using a dark thread</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to outline details.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tQmmnbQdHo/XBq_3nT0mrI/AAAAAAAAa0A/fbZlcHQU-jgJd7m-T6da9tLXR8I51lWrACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tQmmnbQdHo/XBq_3nT0mrI/AAAAAAAAa0A/fbZlcHQU-jgJd7m-T6da9tLXR8I51lWrACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1643.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then I made a few more VW buses,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
also by machine,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
even outlined the windshield with stitching.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These have all found new homes,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I made 10 more which are part of a Christmas garland.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g5UxXyz2Ufo/XBq_3lT3OBI/AAAAAAAAa0A/e3wBoXYiBlEZzqy6PKLmlT4zNMaHs7EUgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g5UxXyz2Ufo/XBq_3lT3OBI/AAAAAAAAa0A/e3wBoXYiBlEZzqy6PKLmlT4zNMaHs7EUgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1636.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've added some beading along the roof line to look like Christmas lights</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
on these bigger houses, also cut with a die cutter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5JggsrF_PQA/XBq_3m2xm-I/AAAAAAAAa0A/BcEUutyxeRsa9ZeCSJIWiHJdL7t9X-E0gCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1613.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="640" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5JggsrF_PQA/XBq_3m2xm-I/AAAAAAAAa0A/BcEUutyxeRsa9ZeCSJIWiHJdL7t9X-E0gCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1613.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I posted 12 Days of Christmas Tree quilts</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
on Instagram (@brendasuderman) earlier this month,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and here are all 12 quilts (actually 13).</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qDoeu7Sa8RM/XBq_3rqLmKI/AAAAAAAAa0A/bLk8l54EFiI6G__2tEeRucyX-MG0b6DBQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1609.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1086" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qDoeu7Sa8RM/XBq_3rqLmKI/AAAAAAAAa0A/bLk8l54EFiI6G__2tEeRucyX-MG0b6DBQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1609.JPG" width="397" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my latest tree quilt,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
made entirely from 2 inch HST from my scrap box.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tptgd28oqE4/XBq_3rWrfVI/AAAAAAAAa0A/FELlOceE-pMKz3h_kGR0JPC-xvnM7cPtACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1547.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tptgd28oqE4/XBq_3rWrfVI/AAAAAAAAa0A/FELlOceE-pMKz3h_kGR0JPC-xvnM7cPtACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1547.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This hand dyed tree made with an easy cathedral window technique</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and a linen background was my other 2018 tree quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It measures 9.5 by 12.5 inches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm leaving you with pix from some of the little tree quilts </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
from other years.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AUZzXpZ1dmk/XAFTb3Cx5CI/AAAAAAAAags/7YmUggEMpoYmSYkvHXbBor8fcXeHvVz2ACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1483.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AUZzXpZ1dmk/XAFTb3Cx5CI/AAAAAAAAags/7YmUggEMpoYmSYkvHXbBor8fcXeHvVz2ACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1483.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Inspired by a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugy4c3t7VwI&list=PLD5EF21A981F69C28">tutorial </a>by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I put together a Christmas tree quilt from scrappy HSTs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These finish at 2 inches. Hers are much bigger.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I run my small scraps through the die cutter and store the shapes in small tins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then whenever I need a little project, or some parts I've got them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is now pieced and quilted,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I'll show you the finished product once I have the binding sewn on.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GPVMahWI0qI/XAFTb6m7PNI/AAAAAAAAags/6ZjpjPoauF4zFaP__4Ld8dB-i5daPKwxQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1477.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GPVMahWI0qI/XAFTb6m7PNI/AAAAAAAAags/6ZjpjPoauF4zFaP__4Ld8dB-i5daPKwxQCKgBGAs/s320/IMG_1477.HEIC" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I saw another<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akKU0zg-qaw"> tutorial </a>for easy cathedral windows.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You know the kind -- where you place a square folded diagonally on another square,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
sew the seams, and then curve back the diagonal.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It seems like a good technique, but there are six layers in those middle seams.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used over dyed white on white fabrics for the trees,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and linen for the background, and put in lots of quilting stitches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is quite stiff, which is perfect for a wall hanging.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T3vSgXdOjUI/XAFTb48DMWI/AAAAAAAAags/wm_nY_v0fnM1Rz0TjUv1U1Lstm06Sr9xwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1481.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T3vSgXdOjUI/XAFTb48DMWI/AAAAAAAAags/wm_nY_v0fnM1Rz0TjUv1U1Lstm06Sr9xwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1481.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I helped set up a craft and bake sale last weekend,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and nearly took these folks home with me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The other volunteers debated with me on the price.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I said $100, but I think they settled on $60.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Too cheap when you consider the amount of work in this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All the pieces were beautifully knit and finished, and the faces were great.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And it is very tactile.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I debated buying it myself, but the organizer didn't want to pre-sell it,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so I consoled myself with posting pix on social media.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xSg1tjvrpoE/XAFTb5BP7TI/AAAAAAAAags/gzIXDc5zH4YtJ9Q6JpyWJISRcf0tTsBtwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1476.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xSg1tjvrpoE/XAFTb5BP7TI/AAAAAAAAags/gzIXDc5zH4YtJ9Q6JpyWJISRcf0tTsBtwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1476.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I put together 10 trays of 36 assorted cookies for the same sale.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Two guys in my house donated some, and a bunch of others from my church did too,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so we had 30 dozen cookies to mix and match.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I know bake sales are old school, but these trays sold for $25 each.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mH_0l7iUVP0/XAFTb99y2VI/AAAAAAAAags/MDi_CLu-iwMuvVykzktqd2kblmY0nh8iwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1470.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mH_0l7iUVP0/XAFTb99y2VI/AAAAAAAAags/MDi_CLu-iwMuvVykzktqd2kblmY0nh8iwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1470.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And a close up of a progress shot of the tree quilt.</div>

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DRPEw6hqiHY/W9zXd_Zn7-I/AAAAAAAAaMg/xppJW4KOYzoV1rtC4hBSpWfZhLK3X55wACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DRPEw6hqiHY/W9zXd_Zn7-I/AAAAAAAAaMg/xppJW4KOYzoV1rtC4hBSpWfZhLK3X55wACKgBGAs/s640/IMG_1368.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've witnessed a minor miracle: my bin of dark strings is empty!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the last four weeks, I've been working on this rectangular string quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My guidelines were: 1.5 inch neutral strip on the diagonal,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
bright strings on one side, and black prints on the other.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had lots of strings and small scraps,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and I even cut a few strips off of yardage at the end for variety.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Check out my process at the <a href="http://stringthingalong.blogspot.com/2018/10/rectangular-strings.html">String Thing Along Blog</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z6iSqfhqoJM/W9zXdyO6S9I/AAAAAAAAaMg/6vzOhSDF7Ls4_LMpqVcUSB4RbUz1ipu2gCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1265.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z6iSqfhqoJM/W9zXdyO6S9I/AAAAAAAAaMg/6vzOhSDF7Ls4_LMpqVcUSB4RbUz1ipu2gCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1265.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a closer look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made 15 of these diamonds, 60 blocks in total.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It measured 60 inches wide and 54 inches high,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and the piano key borders brought it up to about 65 inches long.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Many of the bright scraps and strings</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(see what I did there?)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
came from cutting 2.5 inch strips for these mini-trip around the world blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My guild is making blocks in brights and whites</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
for a charity quilt or two.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s2gkHD8mN6o/W9zXdy_8-zI/AAAAAAAAaMg/UWt7wgh_CJcJ30dQxqUfX3QO0LP4gRzUwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1278.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s2gkHD8mN6o/W9zXdy_8-zI/AAAAAAAAaMg/UWt7wgh_CJcJ30dQxqUfX3QO0LP4gRzUwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1278.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Three of us made these 36 blocks last month.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And yes, I know there's a block laid out wrong.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We haven't sewn any blocks together yet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I'm proof it can happen. We can run out of scraps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But I'm not worried. I can always make more!</div>
<br />
<br />Brendahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029115839076216849noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3001514489840426015.post-42788196722047815082018-10-19T11:17:00.000-05:002018-10-20T13:33:58.873-05:00Lots of little finishes here<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xdOJVpKmU2Q/W8n4H5k6u2I/AAAAAAAAaDk/L6Q5w57HJHcStlgRO8ZPaa3WkYcBdxJ1wCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1256.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xdOJVpKmU2Q/W8n4H5k6u2I/AAAAAAAAaDk/L6Q5w57HJHcStlgRO8ZPaa3WkYcBdxJ1wCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1256.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm on a completion kick over here, clearing out some UFOs and WIPs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and sorting through batting scraps and fabric strips.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First up are two sets of placemats:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The top ones were made from a star die I was testing out with my Accuquilt Go cutter</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and finished with some sale fabrics from a recent road trip.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K99v0hNzCvQ/W8n_Cex3biI/AAAAAAAAaD0/8awBUHf1_xAQrZEb2tcLGhO5WJhUzK9WwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1254.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K99v0hNzCvQ/W8n_Cex3biI/AAAAAAAAaD0/8awBUHf1_xAQrZEb2tcLGhO5WJhUzK9WwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1254.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This second set was made from leftover from scrappy trip around the world blocks</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
my guild is making for a charity quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I couldn't discard the trimmings, so I made a set of placemats</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and tried out some free motion quilting motifs.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J9tDC-FuirE/W8n4H90AbYI/AAAAAAAAaDk/DXY6YbCrDFQpAoGcuAOXObIxRJQXNfTiQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1255.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J9tDC-FuirE/W8n4H90AbYI/AAAAAAAAaDk/DXY6YbCrDFQpAoGcuAOXObIxRJQXNfTiQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1255.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The backing is leftover from another project. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I ran out of that striped fabric,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so two of the placemats are bound in yellow.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ew0z7zxj35k/W8n4HxpHckI/AAAAAAAAaDk/6MrbelVsbecU-mx1scRvldu8mz3yp1zGgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1249.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ew0z7zxj35k/W8n4HxpHckI/AAAAAAAAaDk/6MrbelVsbecU-mx1scRvldu8mz3yp1zGgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1249.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The star placemats have a coordinating table runner.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KvHOVJ0koEM/W8n4H2J7kJI/AAAAAAAAaDk/6IqNNYlU7c8n0hbiDjPiHLmUFwv9UG04QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KvHOVJ0koEM/W8n4H2J7kJI/AAAAAAAAaDk/6IqNNYlU7c8n0hbiDjPiHLmUFwv9UG04QCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1136.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was in a big clean-up mood, so I cut up this machine quilting practice quilt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
into potholder filler.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VZX7jrWByXU/W8n4H1rdD4I/AAAAAAAAaDk/d51gCt5oLhQE0-Tv6fHQ9x6KQzPz-1E_gCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1224.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VZX7jrWByXU/W8n4H1rdD4I/AAAAAAAAaDk/d51gCt5oLhQE0-Tv6fHQ9x6KQzPz-1E_gCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1224.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Which resulted in 16 potholders</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
ready for my kitchen or gifts.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uCjFHyHJGKE/W8n4H_yjF7I/AAAAAAAAaDk/4reeHprBsu0wfZeSeBWNlGanZmHnxhp6wCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1216.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uCjFHyHJGKE/W8n4H_yjF7I/AAAAAAAAaDk/4reeHprBsu0wfZeSeBWNlGanZmHnxhp6wCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1216.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's some green ones, using various scraps and fat quarters</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jzzFFQ2DET0/W8n-6yvQJxI/AAAAAAAAaDw/r6n4hOUN_voOEJfwyA-rOYQxR1dc3SEpACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_1214.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jzzFFQ2DET0/W8n-6yvQJxI/AAAAAAAAaDw/r6n4hOUN_voOEJfwyA-rOYQxR1dc3SEpACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_1214.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
and some orange/red ones. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That boy/girl print in the centre diamond was the backing of the practice quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used up lots of bits, and cleared out batting pieces too small for quilts </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
but too large to throw out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

I spent some time in the role of fairy sewing godmother</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
when a little girl close to me announced to her mom </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
that she wanted a fairy unicorn birthday party.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e-PCvqVXH7I/W64kOv65DeI/AAAAAAAAZh8/B7RaXHm5-W8nCuMkOQ5vFiuodKuclSoyQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0814.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e-PCvqVXH7I/W64kOv65DeI/AAAAAAAAZh8/B7RaXHm5-W8nCuMkOQ5vFiuodKuclSoyQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0814.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think we managed to make that wish come true.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made her this two-piece fairy skirt in rainbow colours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lots of tulle, lots of shirring, and lots of rainbows.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HTE7sJOBDvE/W64kdMw035I/AAAAAAAAZiA/Ak5EYvI4r-swc2JxqWFzPHTJGRYQicphACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0847.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HTE7sJOBDvE/W64kdMw035I/AAAAAAAAZiA/Ak5EYvI4r-swc2JxqWFzPHTJGRYQicphACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0847.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The fairy princess's mom and I made six more tulle skirts</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
for the little girls attending her party.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It definitely was a vision of cuteness, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and one partygoer wore her skirt, fairy wings and tiara with her best dress</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to a family wedding right after the party.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F1KyiJrIF4g/W64j8g58caI/AAAAAAAAZh0/YbodogOkkg0JlTstvt1JM2YRj_sFFCYqACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0891.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F1KyiJrIF4g/W64j8g58caI/AAAAAAAAZh0/YbodogOkkg0JlTstvt1JM2YRj_sFFCYqACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0891.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not much quilting going on here,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but I did visit this hexie quilt I made for a friend 9 years ago.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sn7wW4VazNs/W64j8v5-IkI/AAAAAAAAZh0/-6CDH9zqJQIR9MpZwq2kPTv6O_Tii_lJgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0890.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sn7wW4VazNs/W64j8v5-IkI/AAAAAAAAZh0/-6CDH9zqJQIR9MpZwq2kPTv6O_Tii_lJgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0890.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I quilted it on a friend's midarm machine back then.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Although the stitches are big and the motifs shaky,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
it is all still hanging together.</div>
<br />

<i>Don't Stop</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>72 inches square</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>pieced by my mom and machine quilted by me</i></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1bLE3Fjr-tY/W3cLyfNBCqI/AAAAAAAAZOA/aJudpjMGbaQR8A9t4h4VDRVC22yDwSX8QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0727.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1bLE3Fjr-tY/W3cLyfNBCqI/AAAAAAAAZOA/aJudpjMGbaQR8A9t4h4VDRVC22yDwSX8QCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0727.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finished this quilt a week ago and it is now in the hands of its new owner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The name comes from the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TytGVo1O3_w">Fleetwood Mac song</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and some of the lyrics are machine quilted into the darker triangles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rzDPZQkxO5Q/W3cLUtW14bI/AAAAAAAAZN0/cbGJEFp6grUDilVl3KwchjcutNCEJTQvwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0740.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rzDPZQkxO5Q/W3cLUtW14bI/AAAAAAAAZN0/cbGJEFp6grUDilVl3KwchjcutNCEJTQvwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0740.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did a simple motif on the dark triangles</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and more intense quilting on the neutral ones.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I varied the background motifs to avoid boredom</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and to give the quilt some energy and motion.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xyUpc6KDRJU/W3cLUl8oDaI/AAAAAAAAZN0/Pc-32GSEvK8m68Xvl7bokKAz4Ga7InRKgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0736.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xyUpc6KDRJU/W3cLUl8oDaI/AAAAAAAAZN0/Pc-32GSEvK8m68Xvl7bokKAz4Ga7InRKgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0736.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a view of the quilting from the back.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
it has quilt shop quality flannel on the back, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and sale wall quilt shop fabrics on the front.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This quilt started as a birthday kit for my mom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cut four coordinating prints and background fabric into 6.5 inch HST</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
with the Accuquilt Go cutter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g68baWEmQAc/W3goa5heIHI/AAAAAAAAZOM/CrrDn6zy55odGo1cfhyJumAIRkSgn_y4wCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g68baWEmQAc/W3goa5heIHI/AAAAAAAAZOM/CrrDn6zy55odGo1cfhyJumAIRkSgn_y4wCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7083.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now my mom is an award-winning quilter who makes beautiful applique quilts,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but I wanted her to have a mindless sewing project</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
where she could just piece, and then put the top together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since all of her kids and grandkids are well supplied with quilts,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
she was happy to give this to another family member dealing with a serious illness.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PfiAG9gOAM0/W3cLgvnOFWI/AAAAAAAAZN4/J1oK2LfuvfoxKc1f0w5Mh9gzKIJA8kAJQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0724.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PfiAG9gOAM0/W3cLgvnOFWI/AAAAAAAAZN4/J1oK2LfuvfoxKc1f0w5Mh9gzKIJA8kAJQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0724.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I bound the quilt with a zig zag print cut on the length of grain to get diagonal stripes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9oAOZ1Tatg/W1vuzrQkgzI/AAAAAAAAY4s/lGBONP4nyvEGtufByEG1QvuMdJASt4RKQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0325.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9oAOZ1Tatg/W1vuzrQkgzI/AAAAAAAAY4s/lGBONP4nyvEGtufByEG1QvuMdJASt4RKQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0325.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's some quilty pix from my recent trip to Nova Scotia:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This looks like a quilt, but its a graphic printed on vinyl at</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pier 21, the Canadian Immigration Museum in Halifax.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bsr-Efc9wmY/W1vuzvad48I/AAAAAAAAY4s/0PM5xMXmFfUWiROOks3UksrvLO2C4Y_bgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bsr-Efc9wmY/W1vuzvad48I/AAAAAAAAY4s/0PM5xMXmFfUWiROOks3UksrvLO2C4Y_bgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0319.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I met up with <a href="http://purplebootsandpigtails.blogspot.com/">Valerie,</a> a fellow member of the <a href="http://thefreepiecedbarnproject.blogspot.com/">Secret Society of Barn Builders,</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
near Peggy's Cover, NS.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took my barn quilt to show her, so we posed for a group picture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had seen her quilt in person at the <a href="http://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.com/2016/10/big-show-great-time.html">AQS show in Des Moines, Iowa in 2016,</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and it was nice to meet her.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rYJM1fL6vTM/W1vuzjvcGhI/AAAAAAAAY4s/yKQiXrpiuOACB096z0WosUDQf4_JqHVjACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0317.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rYJM1fL6vTM/W1vuzjvcGhI/AAAAAAAAY4s/yKQiXrpiuOACB096z0WosUDQf4_JqHVjACKgBGAs/s320/IMG_0317.HEIC" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Len (at right) loves the vintage VW vans -- in red,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so I gave him a pouch made from the original tent from my VW van.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JPkb2RIGXiY/W0gXRinBOBI/AAAAAAAAYyY/dZBsB_SrfxArIBcA1Ww6wbMdkHenZzuKQCEwYBhgL/s1600/baby%2BWilliam%2BJuly%2B2018.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JPkb2RIGXiY/W0gXRinBOBI/AAAAAAAAYyY/dZBsB_SrfxArIBcA1Ww6wbMdkHenZzuKQCEwYBhgL/s400/baby%2BWilliam%2BJuly%2B2018.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started this flying geese quilt in May, and finished it four weeks later</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
just in time for the birth of its owner in late June.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This baby was born in Germany to a Canadian dad</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and American mom, so I thought a flying geese quilt might represent something of his heritage.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RRyhP0zkv94/W0gXXGQGh2I/AAAAAAAAYyc/4xjGBQogXRcZeYrwhtmmIV4hacrZXC00QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RRyhP0zkv94/W0gXXGQGh2I/AAAAAAAAYyc/4xjGBQogXRcZeYrwhtmmIV4hacrZXC00QCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0074.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a set of indigo and neutral prints, and made dark geese and light geese.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But I'm not one for using just matching fabrics,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so I threw in some solids to brighten it up, as well as other blue prints.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Four of the columns of geese fly north, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
representing baby's Canadian dad (my cousin)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and the others fly south, representing his mom.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4_e4Jv4tXkk/W0gXXPACMaI/AAAAAAAAYyc/YN7L77pftu4G8TazZ31sjUK7pyZjh2mCQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0061.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4_e4Jv4tXkk/W0gXXPACMaI/AAAAAAAAYyc/YN7L77pftu4G8TazZ31sjUK7pyZjh2mCQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0061.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I backed it with what appears to be a knock off of a Heather Ross gold fish print,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(not that I knew it was a knock-off when I purchased it.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm a pragmatic quiltmaker,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and this fabric was wide enough and lends a juvenile feel</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to an otherwise unbabyish quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see the quilting lines on the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I quilted in the ditch using a walking foot,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
making chevron patterns by going up and down two rows of geese.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eA9ILb78f_c/W0gXXBoKjgI/AAAAAAAAYyc/eV9zE02KNu4zq6TzjDbbYVW0WMZUGswXACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0060.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eA9ILb78f_c/W0gXXBoKjgI/AAAAAAAAYyc/eV9zE02KNu4zq6TzjDbbYVW0WMZUGswXACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0060.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I completed the whole thing in time for family members to take it with them to Germany.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I'm happy to give away a quilt but I'm not thrilled about paying international postage.</div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NX9JS-67Yqw/W0OTACEOtYI/AAAAAAAAYoQ/eXlRWtriaz8FBq3gYTb0KzIEcSj9c3WxQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0020.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NX9JS-67Yqw/W0OTACEOtYI/AAAAAAAAYoQ/eXlRWtriaz8FBq3gYTb0KzIEcSj9c3WxQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0020.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The best part of making baby quilts is seeing the new owner enjoying them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here baby Nico is napping on his new quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-js250hVhM4E/W0OTACmTPhI/AAAAAAAAYoQ/dyzhf2TdzpQhyshlg1-XO38GCp41awbaACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0021.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-js250hVhM4E/W0OTACmTPhI/AAAAAAAAYoQ/dyzhf2TdzpQhyshlg1-XO38GCp41awbaACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0021.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and posing with Dad and Mom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
His mother, daughter of missionary parents,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
lived in Africa and South America as a child,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so her life was the inspiration for the global village on the quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vMmnJJY5ZP0/W0OTAMJKK5I/AAAAAAAAYoQ/Ehb3WMnw_q80lgvyY5j78Qa75v-BZn43QCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0005.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vMmnJJY5ZP0/W0OTAMJKK5I/AAAAAAAAYoQ/Ehb3WMnw_q80lgvyY5j78Qa75v-BZn43QCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0005.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here you can see the variety of houses and skies and trees.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LS8w_WZrH9o/W0OTAIZT6TI/AAAAAAAAYoQ/Pbj0RW46-QQ2AmlPa2G4X4UIWpyFWGEXQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0003.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LS8w_WZrH9o/W0OTAIZT6TI/AAAAAAAAYoQ/Pbj0RW46-QQ2AmlPa2G4X4UIWpyFWGEXQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0003.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And another shot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was made entirely from stash, and used up every bit</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
of a yard of hand-dyed blue I purchased at an AQS show,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
as well as some of my Dutch wax stash and lots of novelties as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JXyN_LE76UI/W0OTRbl1AiI/AAAAAAAAYoY/ASj3VlBFdu8jbgMq5Oxx62b4dVY11cYbACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0012.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JXyN_LE76UI/W0OTRbl1AiI/AAAAAAAAYoY/ASj3VlBFdu8jbgMq5Oxx62b4dVY11cYbACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_0012.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Although it is quite densely quilted,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
it drapes nicely and is very soft to the touch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Welcome to the global village, Nico!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Global Village, 42 by 44 inches</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today is the day this quilt meets its new owner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started this house and tree quilt at a retreat in January</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I finished it a month ago.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3Bw7d9MyPSI/WxvVQ5pChYI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/BUBv_I6ocW81GRTcwHKDDhkr6g-YPYGUgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3Bw7d9MyPSI/WxvVQ5pChYI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/BUBv_I6ocW81GRTcwHKDDhkr6g-YPYGUgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7616.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love building house quilts, but I find it a challenge to quilt them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's tempting to put in many little details to add to the neighbourhood,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but I decided to outline the houses</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and add some writing in the sky.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CeBAXIf9owk/WxvVQzLchKI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/KmraXSfwxHEMF3MolwIo9Re11A49vswLwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7613.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CeBAXIf9owk/WxvVQzLchKI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/KmraXSfwxHEMF3MolwIo9Re11A49vswLwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7613.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I went with an I-Spy theme for the trees</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DPPHsI1973M/WxvVQ6cZkCI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/Rif59fFqhWM0WBMqRqHunhB6Ja8yNdjBgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DPPHsI1973M/WxvVQ6cZkCI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/Rif59fFqhWM0WBMqRqHunhB6Ja8yNdjBgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7023.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and added fun details to the windows and doors and roofs.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Gi80Vk-91g/WxvVQy7XvqI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/3va7twIOgw4jqq3yJY3laajq_b4boVKcwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_6992.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="901" data-original-width="901" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Gi80Vk-91g/WxvVQy7XvqI/AAAAAAAAX_Q/3va7twIOgw4jqq3yJY3laajq_b4boVKcwCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_6992.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The mother of the baby lived has lived Zaire, Congo, Brazil, USA, Canada, France and Colombia</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so I built houses to reflect the diversity of those places.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I plan to post photos with the baby soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />Brendahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029115839076216849noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3001514489840426015.post-50301354394151672982018-05-25T19:36:00.000-05:002018-05-25T19:45:28.599-05:00Turning a pile of pants into a Friday finish<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AyMPJovWSjA/Wwipa_sDJ0I/AAAAAAAAX24/OclI-z5WQbEdRTgXWGS8Rz2aS9GD2anggCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AyMPJovWSjA/Wwipa_sDJ0I/AAAAAAAAX24/OclI-z5WQbEdRTgXWGS8Rz2aS9GD2anggCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7724.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There were too many jeans at my house with irreparable rips.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will patch knees, but can't see my way around fabric rips</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
near the back butt seam.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I decided to make a car blanket for my son's birthday,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and he provided the raw materials</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SBse5LkntFE/Wwipa7U_LII/AAAAAAAAX24/bGx36v6K1YEBYRvpPA6J0kcCyxy3D-XogCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7729.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SBse5LkntFE/Wwipa7U_LII/AAAAAAAAX24/bGx36v6K1YEBYRvpPA6J0kcCyxy3D-XogCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7729.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cut the legs into rectangles in three widths,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and sewed them together in long colums</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and backed it with a 108 inch wide Henry Glass print.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XM2XdPhCMVc/WwipEDOSOmI/AAAAAAAAX2w/R-JQ3kiSc_kFhBa_UB8_GG_NW0ISUGOqwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XM2XdPhCMVc/WwipEDOSOmI/AAAAAAAAX2w/R-JQ3kiSc_kFhBa_UB8_GG_NW0ISUGOqwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7743.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here you can see that I quilted the layers together </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(no batting, just top and bottom)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
with red 28 wt. thread to match the backing</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mHyYK-WUTHM/WwipEDvD9lI/AAAAAAAAX2w/o6nBXMfMsXwVVJmy9W31beSbqHrlpcyVwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mHyYK-WUTHM/WwipEDvD9lI/AAAAAAAAX2w/o6nBXMfMsXwVVJmy9W31beSbqHrlpcyVwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7741.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I free motioned his name and address onto one of the patches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see the imprint of his wallet on that dark blue pocket.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DAerSadwG54/WwipEBsHHaI/AAAAAAAAX2w/xJwRBsgDCbUmkXalvMl6TwBG-IIoNSwqQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7800.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DAerSadwG54/WwipEBsHHaI/AAAAAAAAX2w/xJwRBsgDCbUmkXalvMl6TwBG-IIoNSwqQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7800.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also spent four days earlier this month free motion quilting a quilt for my mom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She made if for my niece's high school graduation (last June)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but for many reasons, it only got done now.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ozf9XDsTuhs/WwipEK_hSeI/AAAAAAAAX2w/4MKVhK6vj6sIv8K-JnvPJatXAwLGkrkFwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7795.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ozf9XDsTuhs/WwipEK_hSeI/AAAAAAAAX2w/4MKVhK6vj6sIv8K-JnvPJatXAwLGkrkFwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7795.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My mom made similar quilts for my other niece and my son for their grads,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I also quilted those for her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We took the opportunity last weekend to get a shot of all three of them with their quilts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see the colour variation in them.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here's the proud grad with her grandma.</div>

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3wmXU-wIMno/Wux07Q6mROI/AAAAAAAAXn8/4CpytOz7ZCgN9yGKBCsxdQXM_Yk-l82CgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7644.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3wmXU-wIMno/Wux07Q6mROI/AAAAAAAAXn8/4CpytOz7ZCgN9yGKBCsxdQXM_Yk-l82CgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7644.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had a quilting deadline last week, and I'm happy to say I made it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm used to deadlines in my professional life,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but for various reasons, I missed completing the quilt </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
meant for my niece's high school grad last June.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to finish it for my mom's guild show, which opens today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My mom pieced at least three tops from her hand dyed fabrics in </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tricia Cribbs' classic Turning Twenty pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Those big blocks provide lots of room for quilting in texture,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I've already quilted the previous two, which you can see <a href="https://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.ca/2015/05/big-and-small-finishes.html">here</a>.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6WZOZbKlF1I/Wux07VT_K_I/AAAAAAAAXn8/Ti-vlwvLVv09baSwWQebZIYxgpcIPug1ACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6WZOZbKlF1I/Wux07VT_K_I/AAAAAAAAXn8/Ti-vlwvLVv09baSwWQebZIYxgpcIPug1ACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7643.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She also bravely overdyed some leftover blocks from her first attempt at a Baltimore Album quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I figured a floral and leaf theme would work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been quilting flowers and leaf wreaths and some random fills</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ffPhZb503dM/Wux07dTOdfI/AAAAAAAAXn8/1PPT5QY3_EMMINKDXxdeRjGTTMlRrw1xACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7657.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ffPhZb503dM/Wux07dTOdfI/AAAAAAAAXn8/1PPT5QY3_EMMINKDXxdeRjGTTMlRrw1xACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7657.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and it mostly turned out great.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There's some nice motifs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and some okay stitching,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and some really bad stitches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I ripped out the worst of them and started again.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Mwv8ijFKiFU/Wux07QB-KpI/AAAAAAAAXn8/rQcjD9AswTQlc4i0zIuxcLQKrNCmkWbsACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7669.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Mwv8ijFKiFU/Wux07QB-KpI/AAAAAAAAXn8/rQcjD9AswTQlc4i0zIuxcLQKrNCmkWbsACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7669.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The deadline to drop off quilts was Wednesday,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and by Tuesday evening we had the binding on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It only took 18 months of waiting,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
four days of stitching,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
five hours of ripping out or burying threads</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and three hours of driving, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but it's done.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yKSV10_mqw8/Wux07U9FYNI/AAAAAAAAXn8/zmZ4FjDhLIgUgMX18nSRMTQ6c4PpSwCswCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yKSV10_mqw8/Wux07U9FYNI/AAAAAAAAXn8/zmZ4FjDhLIgUgMX18nSRMTQ6c4PpSwCswCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7663.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've washed the excess dye from my quilting gloves</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and put my threads away</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and now I feel warmed up for my next free motion quilting project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-emzhMtlizvo/WuMfGsFx6MI/AAAAAAAAXgk/L5E5p9Zh3IwQ0JYDJkPWQT7KlnGRjPZSwCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7550.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-emzhMtlizvo/WuMfGsFx6MI/AAAAAAAAXgk/L5E5p9Zh3IwQ0JYDJkPWQT7KlnGRjPZSwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7550.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have a huge finish to share:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This scrappy log cabin made in a quilt as you go style.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Members of my quilt guilt started this project in September,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and at our March meeting, we hand sewed the binding down.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It has about 2,500 pieces, all from our scrap bags</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and the batting is all 3 inch strips leftover from other quilts.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-43e7YfBHluo/WuMfGhpU0fI/AAAAAAAAXgk/R55L3-x0fzkcW5OF4m9y47Gi4imWEPkygCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-43e7YfBHluo/WuMfGhpU0fI/AAAAAAAAXgk/R55L3-x0fzkcW5OF4m9y47Gi4imWEPkygCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7578.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are my binding buddies!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We only purchased fabric for the binding, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
since no one had the right colour in their stash.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is backed with wide backing flannel in dark grey.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The quilt has 36 blocks measuring 15 inches,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and all of them are joined by 1 inch strips.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Read more about the <a href="https://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.ca/2017/10/strip-pieced-log-cabins.html">technique here.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7PxF7iT4yfg/WuMfGmA8SWI/AAAAAAAAXgk/SuO2XDnhQCII3hdJ2bAZUk2JztB_05VqwCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7378.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I participated in the rainbow mini challenge at Winnipeg Modern Quilt Guild,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I used my leftovers to make two needle books.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1TaLdrXxmgA/WuMfGl9NbaI/AAAAAAAAXgk/ekplY0vcJ3M_z8-h2it705AVdreNWKEGQCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7617.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1TaLdrXxmgA/WuMfGl9NbaI/AAAAAAAAXgk/ekplY0vcJ3M_z8-h2it705AVdreNWKEGQCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7617.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been machine quilting a surprise baby quilt,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I'm pleased to have finished all the quilting a month before the baby is due.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I still need to trim and bind it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nDKLu-AeQmE/WuMfGsp8IsI/AAAAAAAAXgk/S0xSWSw0W3MmPCM9OQn9i-HZJD84fFYrgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_7624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nDKLu-AeQmE/WuMfGsp8IsI/AAAAAAAAXgk/S0xSWSw0W3MmPCM9OQn9i-HZJD84fFYrgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_7624.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is not a finish, but a start.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My mom spray basted this quilt in Sept. 2016 </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and I promised to quilt it in time for my niece's high school graduation the following June.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, I didn't make that deadline</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
but I did <i>start</i> quilting it yesterday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nobody to blame but me,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and ongoing neck issues from whiplash injuries.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
