I added to the stash a bit this weekend, but not at the usual venues. I bought 3 African wax fat quarters for $10 at a quilt exhibit that closes Sunday, Oct. 17 in Winnipeg (downtown at The Bay for you Winnipeggers).
It's called Turning the Tide....one ripple at a time. It feature 52 art quilts created in support of African grandmothers raising children orphaned by AIDS. The quilts are made by the North Island Quilters for Community Awareness in British Columbia. I also bought a set of four art cards which feature some of the quilts.
I also plunked down a few dollars for these goodies at my local thrift shop. That 9 inch square of linen with the lovely fall embroidery set me back a nickel. I also bought the leftovers of a tapestry kit so I can use the Persian wool yarn to tie quilts and blankets. I wanted wool so it will felt when washed. I got a couple of tapestry needles thrown in too. The weaving underneath is a loom woven traditional L'Assomption scarf, worn by Metis people, and purchased for a measly $2. One of my teenagers has already claimed it to wear this winter.
And here's some practical stuff: some spray adhesive, a bottle of starch alternative, and some needles. I joined the needle club at store where I bought these, and got the wing needle for joining. A wing needle makes those holes in a hem, like in the linen square above.

Wow, you did good, girl!
I looked through the quilts on the linked website ... I'm guessing you enjoyed the exhibit. I especially like the last one in the gallery with the two grandmothers framed inside a border of grandchildren.
the grannies are doing some great work!
You got some real treats there at a good price...
I want to go shopping with you some day.
