Playing with selvages and blocks

I was playing with gifted selvages yesterday, making blocks on Kona charcoal fabric to see how it would contrast with the bright whites and citrus colours of the selvages. (for those in the know, that wide limey green is from the Flea Market Fancy line.) So I put them up on the design wall like this:
beside this, made from 5 inch blocks, sewn together in leader-ender fashion, to eventually be a baby quilt

and then realized I could put them together, since the blocks are the same size:

If I keep on with the selvage idea, it will be 28 by 36, big enough for a preemie blanket for the children's hospital.
