I'll admit it: I pre-wash all my quilting fabrics.
I don't want to debate the merits pre-washing vs not,
but one of the side effects of washing yardage
is fraying and tangling.
So today I fired up my serger
(and didn't change out the red thread to something more neutral in the sake of efficiency)
and made loops of fabric
by sewing the cut end of a piece of yardage together.
This was my solution to six light fat quarters:
making fq patchwork, if only temporarily.
It's all agitating in the washer right now.
Stay tuned for the results.

I don't have a serger and forgot about this trick. I wash most of my fabrics, too, and have noticed that there seem to be more threads and raveling than ever before. With some shops cutting exactly on the mark I end up with a much smaller piece than originally planned.
I pre wash all my fabric. I have found since I have a front loading machine that my fabric doesn't fray a much.
I pre-wash everything! Why take a chance on dye running later? That's why I'm not crazy about most pre-cuts (except FQs). Plus they're very expensive, in my opinion.
