Transformation

I transformed these blocks on my wall to this:
 or this:

by cutting up donated blocks into HST finishing at 6 inches
with my Go cutter.

Some of the blocks had wonky proportions,
and none of them worked together,
so this is a good solution.

I'm still working on a better design,
but I'm leaning toward the big stars
with light blocks in the corners
and each star separated by a sashing.
The stars would finish at 24 inches,
so I would need six to make a quilt.

I'm linking up with The Needle and Thread Network

I love zig zag quilts so you know which one I vote for. Which ever you end up making will be a great solution for pulling together all those odd blocks!

That is such an awesome solution for blocks! My favorite is the second one.

I came to your blog today through a link up, and I wondered if you might be interested in joining in another link up. My mom and I post one each Friday called Crafty Comment Karma, for people to link up any of their crafting, quilting or sewing posts. It's open for the whole week until the next one goes up, so I hope you think about joining us! Link-up located here: http://bit.ly/1FT3LsD

What an interesting idea to cut up old quilt block that weren't working... but with great results! I personally prefer the zig-zag version, but both layouts are fun!

I love your busy design wall! I rather like the zig zag setting, but look forward to seeing where you go with this!

Very interesting to cut up mismatched blocks. I love the chevron (zig zag) one as chevron's are so fashionable this year.

Okay, very fabulous idea, cutting up donated blocks into HST's. I love the zig/zag, but the other one is fun, too. Happy cutting and sewing.

Amazing solution! I'll have to remember that one as I have all kinds of orphans hanging around. I love the zigzag layout, the thumbnail caught my eye.

Great idea! I have a stack of odd size orphans so will take your idea and sew with it. Thanks!

What a very clever idea (and gorgeous application), Brenda.

I too prefer the chevron/zig-zag.
