I've been putting together scraps into blocks for a friend.
Funny how this block -- called churn dash or hole in the barn door
is actually the same as these Grecian Cross blocks,
with just a different arrangement of the lights and darks.
And it looks much different when I replace the white background
with the medium blue.
How about if I mess around with the proportions?

I like the proportions messed up, in fact I have a whole sketch page devoted to all the variations I could come up with. I want to use them all in the same quilt.
LOVELY!!!
So many quilts with one block! I love your playground! Keep on playing!
First time I've noticed the relationship between Grecian Cross & Churn Dash!!! Love the "messed proportions" one. Love your blog!!!
Hole in the barn door is the very first block I pieced when I began quilting at a night school class. However, mine turned out to be the Greek cross because of the placement of my colours. Who knew? I like your variety.
So much fun with all of those variations!
I love mixing things up too. Great blocks! I've always liked the churn dash.
Gorgeous! Can't go wrong with churn dashes in my book.
When I read it in the reader and it said they were the same pattern, I thought NO not so, so I came to look at what you were talking about. OMG... It took me a while to see it, too. Amazing the power of color.
Hugs
