An authentic quilt
Here's my completed spiderweb top, with scrappy red borders. I got this together at my retreat last weekend, and I had fun watching people's reactions to it. I sewed together lots of bits of red to make the borders and they "match" the various reds surrounding the webs. One woman came up and told me that this quilt was authentic because it was made from scraps and it had a different feel than the quilts made from yardage. That was a great compliment, and I told her that. I used up miles of strings in this project, lots of reds in various shades, and the only "new" fabric was the background neutrals. I'm happy with how it looks, but there are lots of bulky seams at the intersections. I need to cut the backing to size and then it will cover my newly-reticked comforter and keep me warm on these frosty winter nights.
Thanks for all your comments and entries on my giveaway post, one below this. You still have time to leave a comment to win a needlecase or tea cozy since I'll draw a name on Monday, Feb. 8.
Also, my three recent little quilts are up for sale at the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative right now under the quilts for sale button -- quilts # 4751, 4752 and 4753,

I LOVE the border.
Oh yeah, that'll keep ya warm! Love it! I really like how you did the border with all the reds. Nice job.
OOOOOH LA LA! Hot diggety dog! That is one beauty!!! Love that HOT RED border! Girl, that quilt would look so nice in my house!
lol~!
;-) Well done lady! it's fabulous!!!
so beautiful! I love the red. I found you through block lotto, and this is the first I've ever heart of the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. We lost my seamstress grandmother to alzheimers, I'm so excited to get involved!
That scrappy border really makes it special!
What a beauty!
great quilt! BumbleBeans above said "hot diggity dog",, sounded like a good start to a name for this quilt!
I like the idea of using your strings and making the background the same,,,
thanks for sharing!
This quilt is fabulous! Well done! Happy sewing!
gorgeous! I love that pieced border, really adds a lot to the quilt.
Great Quilt, and your pieced RED border is perfect!
It's absolutely beautiful! My favorite color is red! I made a small spider web quilt 2 years ago, but now I am inspired to make one similar to yours. It'll match my scrappy pineapple quilt. I hope you don't mind if I blog about your quilt. Thanks so much for sharing.
The finished top is lovely, and the pieced border is the perfect match!
Congratulations on an "authentic" quilt (I like that frase)
; )
it is just beautiful
really love the pieced border and how it looks shaded, by using so many reds in the blocks it really adds depth to the quilt
great job, very inspiring.
Happy blog anny!
Kathie
It turned out beautifully. What a great idea to piece the border. It adds so much interest to that area.
I really love the reds in the spiderwebs!
Congratulations on finishing the top, Brenda, it looks gorgeous. I recon you found the two missing blocks, or did you make new ones?
so now did you have less scraps at the end of this project or more??
I swear I keep sewing up my scraps and never get to the end!
Lovely spiderweb.....love the red!
Happy Sewing
Super quilt! I love all the reds.
Too, too beautiful! Great jog Brenda!
My spiderweb project is inching closer to the top of the list (only a couple other major items to complete before I begin). I've been watching yours evolve, more certain than ever that I want to proceed with mine.
I REALLY LOVE THE VARIETY OF REDS IN YOUR BORDER ... GREAT CHOICE!!!!!!!
Ohhhh - I want to make one of these one day. LOVE your quilt - LOVE that you used scrappy reds for the focus strings AND the border. Beautiful :)
I just made a spider web table topper and one of my blog readers sent me to see you quilt. It is TERRIFIC!!! I clicked to enlarge it and see that you used strips of various widths.....and I like the look. I used all the same width in my topper as it was small enough to do that easily. I am going to sign on as a follower to see this when it is all quilted and completed. I do notice my topper has some SERIOUS bulk near the middle of each web....so I can imagine you have a lot of it on your quilt, too. LOVE the colors in yours. (You can go to my blog and see my topper, if you like...but it is super-simple compared to your quilt!)
Your Spiderweb quilt top is wonderful Brenda! Good for you! 8-)
You should be very proud. This is a master quilt. Your combo of reds for the border are perfect. I love the fact that you're not afraid to step out and move away from "matchy matchy"
Your spider web quilt is wonderful. I like the way you used the red around the webs. Congratulations!
Congratulations on your 2 year blog anniversary and finishing your spiderweb quilt. It is gorgeous, red is my favorite color and it really makes it pop! I just adore scrappy quilts and enjoyed your journey in making it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That's a spectacular spiderweb.
