What shape should it be?

This is the pulpit that my banner is intended for. It's 47 inches high, 27 inches wide at the top, tapering to 24 at the base. My words are crowded if the banner is only 24 inches wide, so I'm considering making it the shape of the pulpit. I'm open to suggestions and opinions. I really need some advice on how to attach it. one thought so far is to sew a row of rings at the back and attach it to a corresponding row of finish nails just under the lip of the pulpit, so they wouldn't be visible. But some folks object to nails in nice wood. The biggest issue is that I'm far away from this pulpit, and won't see it until it is time to install the banner. Please help!

How about using the double-stick velcro?

depending on the back of the pulpit it can work to add a plain fabric extension that will hang over the top (under notes and books) and wrap up into the opening at the back of the pulpit -- If this works I've used heavy duty velcro attaching one piece on the inside of the object permenantly and the other piece on the hanging...

In terms of shape I'd think the shape of the pulpit is a fine solution to give you a little more space for the words to breathe!

Not sure about the attaching part, but I like the idea of tapering from top to bottom to give the banner the shape of the pulpit.

What I have done: Made the parament like a quilt with a binding. before doing the handwork on the top binding, add a length of fabric long enough to place over the lectern or table. Sew the binding down over it.
I do this in the same way I put a hanging sleeve that is inserted into the binding.
Place a sheet of plexiglass over this extra piece on the lectern. For this to work, there needs to be a pencil/book rail at the bottom of the lectern.
Alternative:
Make a hanging sleeve for a narrow piece of plexiglass. Have holes drilled into the plexiglass. Run ribbons/fishing wire from the sleeve/plexiglass down the lectern into the inside of the box and install nails/cuphooks/eyehooks.

Adding on to Lynn's ideas:
You could attach a "pillowcase" of fabric, which will lie over the top of the lecturn. Then you slip something heavy and flat in to pillowcase to weight it in place. This heavy thing could be plexiglass or a piece of metal or wood, or whatever you can ding together. This idea will work best if the is a LIP on the lower edge of the lecturn to keep it from sliding off! Otherwise you would have to gauge the weight to match that of the banner.

The above suggestions are sound advice. I just wanted to say that your banner is going to be a wonderful complement to the existing pictorial banners. I love the verse you chose.

There's not much to add to all those good ideas. I'd vote for the shape of the pulpit. It would be too bad to have to crowd your words.

Taper it for sure. Be careful of the double stick velcro as that can leave residue as well and the remover you use to get that off can take the finish as well (otherwise I like that idea). You may want to ask whoever is overseeing the new pulpit project to ask what they prefer. You never know, they may say nail the booger. I volunteer full-time at my local church and I have come to know that you never know what bugs some and doesn't matter to others. :)

No nails in the pulpit. But there is a lip on the lower edge of the lecturn so those pillowcase ideas would work very well. Looking forward to installing it in my chapel!
