Happy quilt day to me

It's my party, and I can quilt if I want to! Today I'm celebrating a birthday, and in honour of that day, I'm showing off my latest finish, influenced by Gwen Marston and the huge bin of solids in my sewing room.

Top left is the back, complete with free-pieced letters in fuchsia no less for the label, and strip pieced. Below left is the centre square within a square, Amish-style, also with free-pieced letters.
Above are some closeups of the quilting and the borders. Below is the whole thing, measuring 18.5 by 18.5. It looked great hanging in my hallway with its golden yellow walls, but that's not where it lives now.

That's right, it lives in Florida with Tonya! She's been such a cheerleader of my work, so I made a quilt just for her. (As you can see, I couldn't decide on a name, so it has three. Take your pick.)

You have given yourself a gift by giving on your birthday. I love the free piecing take off on Amish quilts. That's what I like about your style, being unconventional. Got to try your technique on my "backs".

I missed your birthday so I'll wish you a great year - how about that? :- ) Your little quilt turned out fabulous. I love the way you combined the Amish palette with what I perceive to be an iconic image of the 60's. Lucky Tonya!

Very nice gift.....I do love Tonya's inspiring blog and have made many quilts using her freestyle letters.
It really gets your imagination going doesn't it? Today I am looking around to see letters to write Happy birthday on a quilt for a friend in the border....like the ones shown on Bonnie's site too.

Thanks for your tutorials and very nicely done blog.

Happy Sewing
