I got out my bag of selvages today and started looking for ones with long rows of the colour dots. I pieced them on a foundation according to colour, and then made a little bag out of it. Here's one side of the finished bag (can you see the patch on the top left where I didn't overlap enough?)
and here's the other side. I quite like the look of more selvages and less fabric, but I didn't trim them at all, just used them as is. I've been following Karen's Selvage blog and admiring other people's work, so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm going to put this bag into my purse so my makeup and lotions don't roll around inside. I've got lots more selvages to play with, and this technique is quite quick because there's no flipping and sewing, just sewing one strip on top of another.

very interesting idea, I may have to start saving selvages, too.
Nice work Brenda. I like the small do-able project idea.
Nice. I have another whole bag of selvages saved up for you. Maybe I'll pop them in the mail one of these days.
Your bag is fabulous! I love all the dots!
What a pretty bag! And I like the patch too:)
Is it okay if I just lift the photos for the Selvage Blog?
Karen
How clever! I love that.
Great idea. I started saving my selvages a while back. Was so excited about working with them that Iwent thru my entire stash to cut all the sevlages off! :) I have yet to make anything with them.
Hi
I love this one - it is great!
How cute is this! I love all the dots. Haven't been able to bring myself to begin saving selvages (on top of everything else) yet, but this is sure tempting :- )
OK, I need to admit ignorance, here. Do people cut selvedges off all at one go? Because I usually just leave them in the seam allowance, or cut them off the end of a strip if they are too fuzzy. So, I can't really picture where all these long selvedges are coming from! I love the quilts!
