Celebrating eight years and giveaway

Today I'm celebrating eight years of occupying this space on the internet.
Blogging has changed me,
and blogging itself has changed since 2008.

One change: Before blogging,
I don't think I would have put the blocks above together in one quilt.
Now I love the colours and the brights together
and the fact they are someone else's cast offs.

Then I threw some more colour at it.
I made all those strippy flying geese
with bright kelly green many years ago
and never used them.

This might work,
but it might not.

What do you think?

That's what I love most about blogging --
hearing other opinions and ideas.

I'm also hanging out at Instagram these days
and  you can follow me @brendasuderman

If you're still with me,
please leave me a comment about why you read blogs.
I'll pick a winner at random
and send you something from my sewing room.
Maybe something I made, maybe some leftover blocks.
Let me know what you would prefer.

Giveaway closes on Friday, Feb. 12.

I follow blogs because I love to read. Reading quilting related real life stories- it can't get any better.

I like reading blogs to get inspiration on what to stitch, also to get little snippets of someone's else's life, to see where they live etc it's pretty interesting! I think if you put some more grey or black and white hour glass blocks in the corners instead of the bright pinwheels it would tie the quilt together :)

I read blogs to stay connected to people like me, who love to experiment and play with color, who never question why are you making another quilt when you have so many? Blogs tell stories where Facebook and Instagram are one liners, not enough for me. I want the story.

I like the green and strippy geese. I think it complements and calms the center.

I love reading blogs and seeing how very different our styles and our methods vary, one think we all have in common though is our love of colour and fabric. My small group no longer get together and I started my blog at that time to "meet" other quilters. I love the QAL's and the challenges that go around the community, I would be lost without these! I must say that like Wanda I am not a fan of Facebook nor Instagram - I love what she says about "wanting the story" - so right!
Your second quilt I love with the addition of the green and your four corner blocks and I do believe it works!

Congratulations on you 8 years as a blogger. I read quilting blogs to stay connected to other quilters and be inspired by what they are creating, especially when it involves using scraps creatively :)

Congrats on eight awesome bloggy years! I am celebrating eight years of blogging this month too. I read blogs because that is how I start my day. I get to see what all my scrappy friends are making. I learn new things even after 20 years of making quilts. It seems that lately I have been spending too much time reading and not enough time writing my own blog posts.

I still read blogs because of the inspiration it gives to my creative side and spiritual side. Just like your post today. I never would have though of that combination, but I LOVE it! Made my day. Many thanks.

Congrats on eight years. Blogging has changed my journey as a quilter. I've "met" new friends from around the world and have been exposed to some great quilters and their great quilts. IG has a place but blogging still tells the story. Your choices for the borders are wonderful!!

I read blogs to get inspiration for quilts to sew, but oh so many on the list! I also like to see trends, get a glimpse into quilters studios and lives and feel a connection with other quilters, even if only virtual. Congrats on eight years!

I read blogs because it is interesting to hear how people all over the world live, craft, grow veggies in their garden., survive life's hurdles. Somehow they become "friends" and occasionally the opportunity arises to meet up with them. I have picked up lots of ideas for my hobby, quilting, exchanged gifts with other bloggers, donated blocks for other bloggers' charity quilts and now I am participating in a sewing bee to make quilts for Siblings Together. Such fun! Congratulations on 8 years of blogging. If I was fortunate to win your Giveaway some leftover blocks would be great. Thank you.

Congratulations on your anniversary! I read blogs for inspiration, ideas and just to see the creations of so many talented people. I have only a few "quilty friends" in real life so quilting blogs fill a real void for me. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the giveaway. (shirparks@gmail.com)

I read blogs for inspiration, for amusement (many quilters have quite a sense of humor) and for a kick in the pants encouragement to tackle things like UFO's, Y seams, curved piecing and such. I also believe no quilter should post without at least one picture :-)

Eight years - time goes by so quickly. I love to look at other people's blogs and what they're doing. Seeing all the different quilts, the fabrics they use and their ideas and how they work - it's just such a free wealth of information. Keep posting!

I follow a few quilting and cooking blogs faithfully because I find interesting writing, inspiration, new tips and tricks, and proof that I'm not alone in my quirks. I dump the ones I try that take forever to load because of huge, duplicated photos or jumping at me ads; I want to be soothed, excited, transformed, but not annoyed or irritated.

Your many-colored, multi-patterned work in today's post fulfills my wants nicely--it's strange but attractive on many levels!

I read blogs to see new designs and techniques. I would prefer to receive one post a week or every couple weeks so there is something of importance in the post. If I'm chosen I'd like some light scraps. Thanks.

I blog for several reasons -- it lets me focus on the GOOD things in my life, it lets me share my passion/addiction to fabrics, colors, and making quilts, I am fascinated by how each person shares their process, and there is SO much inspiration out there being shared by others -- I love the sense of community that happens when bloggers follow each other. (leftover blocks or bits can be a lot of fun)
