Spring break sewing

DS2 is on spring break and is sewing 12.5 inch blocks together
to make a single-sized top.
He plans to tie this instead of quilting it,
to make a donation blanket for Mennonite Central Committee.

I got him set up on the Singer Featherweight and he's already threaded it like a pro.

He's a machinery kind of guy, and so he approached this like a mechanic.

I'm on pressing duty, and I've shown him how to lock the seam allowances at the intersections.

In this video, he's sewing the long seam confidently and did not sew over any pins.

Stay tuned for a finished project at the end of the week.
Grandma is going to take a turn helping him layer and tie it
since she has big tables in her sewing room.

I'm linking up to The Needle and Thread Network.

Great job! My youngest son has made a quilt. He choose to tie his also. Makes a mom proud to see their finished quilts.

love it when young people take up the challenge of a new idea! Every accomplishment contributes to life knowledge... I have a mechanical mind and have always found the geometry and techniques of quilting to be very satisfying!
