A new way of looking at an old UFO

I had a small but significant finish.
Back in August I made this 22 inch square top
from some Lotta Jansdotter charm squares
for a challenge for Modern8 Create.
I cut circles and inset them, but then stalled on the project.
So I proceeded this week by taking it apart --
actually, only removing one square

And quilted it

To make a cover for my Juki QL98 sewing machine.

Here's a side and back view, where you can see how the missing square
accommodates the thread stand.
I bound and backed it with Kona Espresso,
and quilted it with brown thread.

I'm going to the use the leftover Lotta fabric to make a matching pad
for underneath the machine.

I'm linking up to Amanda's Finish it up Fridays and Don't Tell Quilts' TGIFF

Great idea with finishing the UFO. Maybe I should be thinking "outside the box" and get some of my UFOs repurposed! Thanks for the inspriation.

great way to give new life to an old UFO! Who says a project needs to end up as what it started out to be?

That is so beautiful and creative. Sometimes I have to put a project aside for a long time before it "speaks" to me again.

Ah a machine cover is on my to-do list this year! I love the darker quilt thread and backing and the fact that the missing circle has found pride of place in the next project.

How smart! I'm definitely going to have to "borrow" your idea. Love the fabrics and the design too...
