Today is the last day of the Quilt of Belonging exhibit in my hometown.
If it ever comes your way, be sure to see it. It is overwhelming in its details and its size.
The use of colour is amazing. It starts with red, goes throught the whole spectrum to red again, and another time to end in red, mimicking the Canadian flag.
This is a uniquely Canadian project, representing aboriginal people and from all over the world, demonstrating how multi-cultural Canada is.
Here's the American block, with a log cabin centre and sampler-style embroidery around it.
I like the reverse applique here.
The tassles at the bottom show the movement of colour.
Here's another shot of the bottom.
A wider shot. It is impossible to get the whole thing -- all 263 hexagons--in one shot.
An explanation of the project. If you're a Canadian, it might be coming to a gallery near you.

When I was unpacking my quilt books in my new apartment, I stopped to flip through the book about this quilt and wondered if it continues to be exhibited ... now I have my answer. It is amazing. It's nice that you could take photos, too. When it was at Houston, no photography was allowed.
It's truly an amazing quilt - we saw it at the Creativ Sewing Festival in Toronto.
What a great quilt project--and it's not only beautiful but educational, too
I doubt it will ever travel to the north where I live, but I have the book about it. It looks so intriguing. I would love to see it one day.
That is a great exhibit...great job getting photos to share!
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
That looks incredible. Thanks for showing the pics!
I have some note cards that I bought at the Glenbow in Calgary a few years ago. I am sorry that I did not get a chance to see it in person but I have a fabulous book about it. Each block has its own wonderful story.
Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Anna
Wow - I've never heard or seen this before! It's amazing - and what a wonderful concept behind it.
Wow! Amazing! Amazing! Think of all the work putting this together so beautifully. Hats off to whoever they are.
I had no idea it was here! But I have seen the book and read through quite a bit about the project. Sorry I missed it...
