Some lovely antique quilts

This lovely antique quilt, which has no information about the date or maker, was one of several vintage quilts at the Barnswallows Quilt Show in Morden, Manitoba, Canada this weekend. I imagine the green might be a bit faded, but otherwise it was in great condition. It is a good example of a quilt that isn't perfectly symmetrical, nor meant to be. It had lots of echo handquilting, which I hope you can see in this closeup photo.

Here's an autograph quilt, again with no information, but a nice example of this style. I like how the signatures make a diamond design.

This leaf quilt wasn't antique, but it had an interesting story. A quilting acquaintance made it from the embroidered and appliqued maple leaf blocks she inherited from her grandmother's estate. They're probably at least 40 years old, judging from the polycotton background they're appliqued on. The quilter found some coordinating fabric to alternate with the leaf blocks and handquilted this as  a gift for her niece. Other than the antique quilts, this was one of the very few handquilted pieces at this show.

I took a close look at the names and they are definitely local. I imagine a date could be made by researching them. I think the appliqued one might be older. The Quilt Study Center in Lincoln could definitely date them if someone wanted to go to the effort of contacting them.

What a fabulous Rose Wreath quilt! Those are my favorite red & greens...the chunky, folky versions. Thanks for sharing!

love the autograph quilt - someone could really have fun trying to figure out where it was made by researching the names. red and green is purty too!

The signature quilt is interesting. I have never seen one like that.
