Rich inheritances

Look what followed me home this week -- a Singer Featherweight 222K. My mother has three Featherweights, and she's been promising I could "inherit" this one sometime. This one is in lovely shape and it was recently cleaned and oiled so it runs beautifully. I love my sturdy Elna, but I hate carrying it around with me (it weighs 25 lbs) and now I have an easy portable at half the weight.
But that's not the best part. This is a rare Featherweight, with a free arm and it can drop the feed dogs for darning (or free motion quilting.) Take a look here:
The table pulls away for the free arm function. Isn't it cute?
And there's more goodies.....

Here are the attachments, although no darning foot. I also own a Singer treadle(we use it as furniture) and a 99K in a cabinet, so I already have lots of attachments, including a walking foot. And the carrying case is in good shape, with no bad smells that some of them are infamous for (something about the glue) and both the latches work. It doesn't have the original foot pedal, but otherwise, its perfect. Thanks so much, mom!

Here's another inheritance....a thread/spool holder/thimble rest originally from my great aunt. I was looking for something to keep my spools from tangling while hand stitching, and my mom offered this. She thinks it originally came from relatives in Brazil.

I spent the weekend with my mother and we cut flower parts for the minimalist applique quilt from her stash of hand dyes. Her philosophy was to use them up, so we did. I took half home and she's working on the other half. She's figuring we need about 80 of these for a queen sized quilt, although I am negotiating for borders and less blocks.

And here's a sneak peek of a nearly finished quilt "There's no place like home". Joyce graciously lent me the use of her mid-arm and frame and I practiced my machine quilting in her lovely studio in the woods.  I also left with a bag of selvages. Thanks so much Joyce.
