Postcards and purses

click photo to see the details
I took a workshop from local quiltmaker Heather Lair on Sunday and we did two projects: postcards from a kit she provided, and a small purse made from bits and pieces of wool stuit coats. Her philosophy on the suitcoat project was to cut it off if it was too long and add a bit if it was too short. Sound familiar? I love working with wool--it is forgiving and flexible. This was just a wee purse, but I'm going to take those techniques and make a bigger tote or laptop bag with the rest of the purple wool jacket, and whatever other thrift shop goodies I can find.

She sounds like a quilter after my own heart.

Yes, it does sound like it was a fun day! I will have to show you my kit again sometime, and you can give me some advice--perhaps it could make a little postcard since it's about the same size.

What a clever way to go about making a purse -- love how you incorporated the buttons into a flower.
