Patterns and plaids

I love the ripples on this half sewn quilt. I've sewn the blocks into rows but not the rows to each other, so the connecting threads between the rows are causing this ripple effect as it hangs over my ironing board.
Over the Christmas holidays, I used up pre-cut bricks and squares to make a scrappy Scot's Plaid quilt, either for a donation blanket or as a comfort quilt to a friend in need. I took a break from my studies and work yesterday to start sewing it together. If you look carefully, you can see words on the light squares. They're from those pre-printed panels with the instruction printed right on the fabric. I cut up all the instructions and used them to make this quilt more interesting.

Here's another view of the same thing. I won't be finishing this until I get the another paper written, so I'll just admire it this way for now.

Neat look! Almost like curtains! It's fun to see you experimenting and enjoying your entire process.

Must be nice to take time away from writing papers to get some visual creativity done. Great job and I like the idea of cutting up the instructions. Never thought of that.

The whole effect, scrappy and ripples, hark back to the reason for quilts, function. I like the heritage feel of this quilt.

You are right. Those words do add interest..probably even more so after it is quilted. Nice way to spend a little break.

This is looking good! I like the idea of including the instructions! And it's a fun and easy break from the school work - satisfies that creative urge!

This is one pattern I've been considering for a color challenge I need to do, so it's quite helpful to see it made up. Thanks!

It is so nice that you enjoy and take the time while a quilt is in progress to notice it's loveliness and share it.

This quilt is really charming. I'd like to read something that you've written. Where is your writing published?
