A snowstorm quilt!

March sixty-six
16.5 by 16.5 inches
machine pieced and quilted

I don't know what the weather is like where you live,
and mostly I don't care,
because where I live, we have lots of snow.
So last night I made a snowstorm quilt

It's made from scraps of an IKEA text fabric
framed in white.
I like the abstract quality of the written numbers when they're cut up
Here's the back.
I freemotioned the words for numbers in the centre
and straightlined stitched the borders.

And here's the inspiration.
Lots and lots of fluffly, wet snow
on March 4, 2013,
leading people to compare this one
to that really big one on March 4, 1966.

Where I live, we only had 13 centimetres,
but west of here, some folks had three or four times that amount.

People still talk about that big one in '66.

I remember playing between huge walls of snow that winter.
My baby brother was only six weeks old
and my parents took the opportunity of being snowed in
to take some photos of their kids.
Yup, that's me, with my 60s pixie cut!

I'm linking up with WIP Wednesday at TNTN.

I LOVE your abstract, minimalist quilt, AND that pixie haircut. I had one of those too, but my hair would never lay down quite right.

Yup....I have pictures of me with the very same haircut.

The quilt looks great.

Snowy here but not real blizzardy. I gotta get over and get some of that fabric. Nicely done.

That is such a cool idea - no pun intended! We haven't seen snow in a while, but that is normal here on the south west coast of Norway. Hope spring will find you soon and melt all that snow away!

Love the ikea fabric.
We still talk about the big storms we had in the late 70's.
I also had the pixie cut. My mom would tape off my bangs for a straight cut. If it didn't turn out straight she would do it again. I had some short bangs sometimes. lol
Enjoyed your post. Brings back alot of memories.

Your snow quilt is so fun!
snow is on its way to me today - and I remember the blizzard of 66 and making snow caves in the drifts with my brother.

Nice little quilt. That Ikea fabric is fab. Almost makes me want to take a trip to Ikea to see what they have! No snow here, apart from up on the mountains where we like it. :)
