Celebrating International Quilting Day

I celebrated International Quilting Day yesterday by hauling out my oldest flimsy.
I made this trip around the world top nearly a decade ago.
I decided yesterday to take it in a different direction.

I machine quilted it in the pumpkin seed pattern.

Here's the back.

And then I cut it up.
These are the bits leftover

and these are the two shapes I cut out

Here are the results:
Two bags to cover up the bed of a
Singer Featherweight when it is in the case,
like this:

Or to use as a thread catcher.
One for me, and one for a friend.

I'm happy to have made something useful
out of an old flimsy.

Hope you had a great day.

I love how you "repurposed" the quilt top into items that look great and are useful too.

It is so satisfying to make something "new" and useful, out of something old--ish and not being used. I've done that and loved having something go from ufo to done. Love your machine cover, such a great way to use up that TRATW

Good idea. I have a lot of things like that flimsy. At one point I was interested in them but not enough to get them quilted. Now they are old and dull.

Great idea… I can't imagine you using that flimsy as anything left as it was after the quilting, and now it has something to do. Very cool!

This is so charming! What great ideas! It is kind of satisfying to cut up something that no longer delights you.
