I'm having second thoughts about the centre ties on this flannel quilt,
which measures about 50 by 60.
The squares finished measure 8.5 inches.
These are Moda flannels passed on by my mother
since she had them for years and never used them.
They're not my preferred colour palette,
but they make a cuddly quilt,
combined with the puffy polyester batting also passed on by my mother.
I machine quilted along both sides of the seams,
but that left an 8 inch square in the middle unquilted.
I marked the centres and tied them last night,
but now I find the effect underwhelming.
What should I do instead?
Diagonal lines? free motion pumpkin seeds or arcs?

I dont think it needs anything, the puffiness is great....just leave it. I do like the colors.
It's not absolutely necessary, but I think it would be more interesting to have a little quilting in those big empty squares. Flannel with a polyester bat does make a cuddly quilt!
I like the ties. it reminds me of quilts that have been passed down in the family.
I think you should leave it as is. It will be fluffy and comforting. I always get excited by color and patterns, but my son reminds me that he looks for softness.
I think it would be great to do a little stitching in the big blocks like a continuous curve pattern, then you wouldn't have to take out the ties.
